OK, you've sussed me out. Here's the kind and gentle eye on the other side.

Is that a real dragon that's bred with a troll and turned to stone in the sunlight? Incredible stuff!

I have a suggestion, if I may :)
I find that something that lifts the look of any dragon is a little beard on the edge of it lower jaw, I think that would look really good on this one as well!
Also, I think that some small horns in general around the the jaw area would look great too. You're doing ears right?

Great work!

I'm not sure about the ears. They could look great or ridiculous. Is there any living reptile that has visible external ears? For most lizards it's just a hole on each side of the head. (I guess you mean those wing-like ears.)

Again, with the horns, I'm not sure. It could look brilliant but I don't want to overdo it. I think the main focus of the head is the mouth and the terrible teeth in it.

I use milliput, pro-create and greenstuff (kneadatite).

I guess the ears are tricky, I do mean the wing-like ears, but small ones, more to enhance the dragon look and prevent it from looking like a crocodile. It is after all a dragon, a creature of fantasy, and hence not very logic at all. I would say the flying, and the breath of fire, is less credible than the existence of ears :)

Amazing work! Truly stunning! I've been watching this thread for a long time now, but this is the first occasion on which I felt I could add something other than praise.

I have an illustrated encyclopedia of animals. On no living Chameleon, Skink, Monitor Lizard (Komodo Dragon included), Basilisk or Anole is there anything resembling a mammalian ear. Most have holes in the sides on their heads, as you said Natarn.

Just thought I'd share and give you some reasoning to go by in case you decide to skip on the large, flappy ears! :)

Keep it up! 8)

I think that Smaug would look real good with kinda frilly, gill type ears... I don't really know how to explain it, so I did a VERY quick drawing on MP:

Yes, I know, it's really Devlan Mud

Just an idea though... in my opinion, it would look cool, but not completely overdo the head if the "earflaps" are the correct size...

This does resemble the kind of apparatus that some lizards have for intimidation. Depending on how they're done, I think they could really work out or totally negate the look of realism that Natarn's Smaug has now. If anything, I'd recommend sculpting them separate.

Dragons fly and breathe flame (probably from both ends... never mind) so ears, horns, 'goatee' beards - there is everything to play for.

I'm inspired! Actually, after this illustration, I'm considering resculpting the entire head.

Perhaps not...

I admit, as he is a dragon, he may warrant something a bit different from your usually reptile (apart from the immense wings, ability to breathe fire and speak!) and the back of his head looks a bit bare. I'll think on it. Perhaps some paper mock-ups might help me decide. Time's a bit short though now and I'm not working on him at all till this weekend as I have to finish writing school reportsssssssszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
