In the light of the morning, the feet looked way too long so I've adjusted one to see how it looks. I'm happier with the shorter foot because it looks more realistic. Having it longer gave the dragon the gangly appearance of an immature creature but I want it to look mature. Right leg done, now for the left... :-D
then there's the washing up to be done.

Gondolin, you won't have long to wait for wings. Just hang on! :-D

My heart suddenly starts beating faster while reading this :D

The leg looks cool, do you have a second picture from an other angle? With the legs finished, it starts getting it's final shape!

Yesterday's left leg.

Today's left leg.

The leg trimming went well. Now I've got to fix those feet in place with milliput.

You are right, Gondolin; the claws will really help give it its defining shape...

Well - the feet and the wings.

Wings coming soon. :-D

And I've still got the washing up to do! :o

That looks nice!

What kind of feet will you be toeing.. doing? Seperate toes, skin in between the toes, 3 long claw-like 'fingers' goming directly from the leg?

Hooves? :?

Finished left side of neck.

Origami wings! I've been experimenting with the size and shape of wings using some folded paper.

Thanks for the picture!

The wings look cool, I like the shape, but I think they should be bigger, cause Smaug should look mighty and enormous. These are too small to express that. But still it looks cool :D

Perhaps.

However, next to a normal mini, he certainly looks MIGHTY and ENORMOUS.

Check out this picture from the early days.

The dwarves are dwarfed.

It's fantastic, I love it - and it's nearly finished! (until you drop it down the stairs and have to start from scratch)

Been great to watch your awesome progress on this project, but... I have to agree with these points, you have the right shape, but proportionally the wingspan should be greater. A bird's wingspan is over twice the body length (including head and tail, but not tail feathers). Since he has such a long tail, a wingspan from nose to tail will look about right if the width is there. The DragonHeart movie dragon was about right.

I take your points. I'll try a mock-up with larger paper wings to see what that looks like.

Great Work Nathan ! Excellent!

I think the wings look good though. Perhaps make them more 'outward' as to intimidate (perhaps even dwarf) his opponents.

How's this? :)

I think you were right. Now it looks like it might be able to get airborne. They are going to be much trickier to make though! :o

Wouldn't it be a bit of an evolutionary paradox if dragons (were real) wings were actually made of paper? They could only flame where there was no possibility of backwash... and would have to keep the temperature under 451 degrees celsius. Intriguing....

Natarn: have you worked out a way of making those wings yet? IMHO, they need to be a bit bigger (no, not a joke - Smaug's a big fellow).
