Been busy today. I started working on the parlour window now. The front door is almost finished and I'll post a photo soon, but I want to get a few of these panels done before I start painting!

I know we said we'd have a laugh about this and 'sarcastically' slag each other for our work, but to be honest, I dont like doing it...credit due where credits due !!! I think the front entrance looks awesome !!!
Bit concerned about your scale, IE: the bricks around the door look gbig, I plan to do smaller and also, that Parlour Window is feckin awesome, but agian, concerned about the scale of the 'surround' frame around the window. Thats 'contructive'...not critisism, either way, still looks fantastic...awesome work as usual mate.

(I feel a funny turn coming on which unfortuanately will see me have to pull out of this comp, even though I was ahead) :roll:

Thanks Brian, yeah I was a bit concerned that some of the newer members might see our insults as real instead of the jokes that they are. Fair enough, time to stop then.

The bricks around the door are too large, I agree. But I ain't going to scrap it and start again. The window frame on the parlour looks ok to me, but you may be right. Again, if it's wrong, then too late!

I had a look at the extras on the FOTR extended DVD and saw some magnificent drawings and photographs of Bag End. You've probably looked at them already Brian, but if not, it's worth flicking through them to see how all of the facades fit together.

What’s all this about the “funny turn” Brian? It sounds… eerie. I’m reading these Bag-End posts like I read the newspaper every day: just to get me into the right mood before I start working on my own building project. I wouldn’t want to see this serial prematurely come to an end. The skills & tricks that you guys are showing do make clear what terrain building is all about. Very inspiring for aspirant hobbyists and seasoned fiddlers alike. And a good read as well!

As previously posted, I have totally scrapped the original parlour window and started from scratch, I was too concerned about scale. I am actually using a Bilbo miniature as a comparison to try and get a realistic 'size' of things, but have to admit its hard at times.
So far, I have a new back wall section, window frame (inner and outer) intact, surrounding frames, support struts, and canopy all cut and glued into place and fully painted using the grey scheme.
Just need some more supports cut (done 2 more already) to finish off the main sections, but christ knows how I am going to beat Alans intricate lead windows.
My plan for this was to use something much thinner, IE: a very, very thin brass rod, but I keep delaying trying to start it.

You just need to wait until I paint it Brian, then you'll be back in the lead again. Honestly, I am very worried about painting this model - I just know my cr@ppy painting skills will ruin it. Can I send it over to you mate, and get you to paint it for me?

In answer to the question, "what do I use to cut the balsa wood?" - a VERY sharp knife. I always use a new blade in my hobby knife when cutting intricate pieces from balsa, especially when cuttiong across the grain.
