Only one friendly model needs to be in range of the banner.

I think Gold coins are awarded for submitting articles and such like.

I think its all written in the introduction to the site article, i think for every £ you donate you get a coin? something like that anyway.

I have always played (although i may be wrong) that if the banner bearer is in battle, he is using it to fight so no-one benefits from it. This goes on to include the banner bearer himself although what Hithero says makes sense fluff wise...
