I recently purchased a Moria army after being dissatisfied with my Easterlings. Figuring the best way to learn was to play my goblins a lot. Without further a do, here is my battle report.

Battle: 1
Scenario: rolled a pitched battle
Points: 360
Enemy: Isengard

Moria – Durbuz’s Fist
Durbuz
20x Shields
20x Spears
20x Bows

Isengard – The Fighting Uruk-hai
Captain w/ shield, sword, crossbow
1x Troll
10x Pikes
10x Shields

Deployment:
I set up around the various ruined buildings and boulder heaps, while he deployed in a pike block with the troll as support for the right flank. There were various pillars of rock that sprung out of the ground and also several hills.

The Battle:
The first half the game was rather slow as my bows were out of range and his soldiers advanced in a phalanx. Eventually my archers began firing and were rolling 6’s left and right slaying 1-3 Uruks a turn. Meanwhile my shields and spears and moved around the pike block nimbly leaping from rock to rock and engulfed the Uruks. The Uruks broke ranks and charge madly into the goblins hoping to crush them with their higher strength. They formed a semi-circle pressing the goblins back, exposing their supporter to my archers who brought cut them down over 3 turns. His Uruks were defeated in 4:1 combats stacked in my favor. The Goblin King cut a path through the Uruks, and his troll was rendered useless because my one suicidal goblin warrior had held him in combat for third turns and winning combat each time. However, my goblin was at last defeated and then the troll fled the field when he realized on four Uruks were left standing to my 40-ish goblins.

Result: Moria victory

Sounds like you have learnt to play with goblins rather quickly :)

Try testing your tactics against different armies but the sheer number of models you have for 360 points should trouble any force

good luck

Wow... I had never thought as to why Goblins would be attacking UrukHai.. butthen evil armies fight over all sorts of things... see Minus Ungol? Mordor Uruks vs Mordor Orcs for th eMithril coat.

Uruks ARE high strength and defence opposition... Your tactic on shooting for the support spear/pikemen was a brilliant... especially when the terrain available allowed them to climb up! Well done.

I am surprised that the Uruks didn't have some crossbows however as at this rate it seems like you were teh only one at the gun fight ... with a gun.

Amazing luck however... one goblin surviving three rounds alone against a troll! And rolling six's all the time.... unheard of....

A well played round ..especially good use of the outnumbered warriors rule... making the troll check motivation/ courage and seeing him run...

If you team up your goblins agains wood elves I would be very interested to know how your tactics will work or not work

Thanks for your tale of valour and (interestingly no heroics?)

Good job on winning, but your army was massively illegal. Or were you not playing by the warbands system?
