Someone has been busy these past few weeks, the building looks great so far. :yay:
I would personally keep the Corinthian capitals to a minimum as the aren't that Gondorian.
Could you send me a link for the foamboardish stuff you use for the walls, I never saw something like it down here and it looks very usefull.
Oh, and I would really recommend this book http://www.amazon.com/Living-Architecture-Hans-H-Hofst%C3%A4tter/dp/0356031020.
It's a great source for inspiration.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Great work Drum, I love your attention to detail. The brickwork looks fantastic and I can't believe how quickly you're working!

@aqan - thanks, I have finally got round to some more terrain again. At first I though the same as it was not the typical gondorian architecture, but I've grown to like it and it's not too far off - plus because of the building design it still looks very gondorian. The foamboard is originally for insulation, but is quite difficult to find sometimes.

@Fishlegs - thanks man, things have progressed quick enough until now (I had a sneaky break)

Update

Got some work done on the roof with it now on properly, along with tiles and neatening it up. All the pillars have been glued, although I had a problem with the corner side as I had to lengthen it, therefore changing the pillar distance so I added two. That's pretty much the side finished now, so next is the smaller building like on the plans.

Just cardboard from a cereal box - tiles 3cm by 2cm, stacked on top of each other facing down the way.

Great work so far. This is some of the best gondor terrain I've seen.

@avenger - thanks avenger, I've always longed to do some Gondor buildings - not just the ruins.

I got a start on the next building but I need to fiddle around with some measurements before I begin to get the arches on. Now I've decided to change my idea for the diorama as the wall in the back would have to be massive. So has anyone got a diorama layout idea? I was thinking a few buildings with a courtyard where the gondor troops are defending their position from orc attacks.

nope. It's foamboard and the bricks have been carved out with a pencil (however the bottom pillars are hirst arts). Like your name by the way, can't get anything funnier than Ice Age (especially that squirrel thing!)

Wow that must have been alot of carving
Foamboard, eh? any idea where you could get some (in the UK)?
Are those hist art molds worth it?
they seem extremeley expensive for 1 mold =/

It doesn't take long to carve in the bricks but it leaves a very detailed effect. There are several names for it, but this specific green sort I bought from HomeBase and it served as laminate underflooring - but it's fantastic for building. I searched in B&Q but they don't have anything, so HomeBase is your best bet. Otherwise you can get posterboard (the same but with paper backed sides) in hobby shops.

Now, the hirst arts moulds are great fun and I have several but to be honest I haven't used them that much. I mainly use the detailed parts like pillars, and fancy pieces which I can not recreate myself. The bricks themselves I haven't used a huge amount. They are quite expensive, but you get a lot of use out of them before they wear out. I personally find working from foamboard a lot more rewarding and fun.

Ouch, not the stuff I buy anyway. I got mine in store for around 20 pounds (for over a dozen very large sheets)

Right I have now finished the building part of this model (apart from getting some filler on the roof ledge) and can now start on painting. However before I start painting this I'm going to start on another building which I recieved the plans kindly from aqan, made by Alan. I'm hoping to make some sort of Osgiliath board with these pieces, and once I've made a few more intact buildings, I shall have some ruins. I'll keep you updated on my progress.
