I was wondering as a dwarfplayer why every army list of the dwarves has Thorin in it. I don't have the hobbit rulebook yet (my local gwshop is rebuilding) so I would really appreciate it if you guys could tell me if he is op or if he is just in every army list because he is new.

From his rules he's not particularly op, the fact he can't take a decent mount (unless they've changed the way ponies work, haven't thought to check) holds him back a bit.

Possible reasons to take him though:
He had a similar stat line to Imrahil with a couple of cool special rules for fewer points.

Orcist and the Oakenshield are good in or out of a fight.

He's in the new starter set so everyone has him

He's a pretty pretty model

He lets you take dwarf warriors with spears.

There's one other important reason:

Because the Goblin King is that damned good.

I think he means that because many perceive the Goblin King to be OP in alot of ways, having Thorin carrying orcrist helps because of the Goblin King's vulnerabilities to such named weapons.

(I think!)

Without getting into actual rules here, the Goblin King is a remarkably good value for the points cost and will likely find his way into a large number of Evil lists--I know I am sorely tempted to take him with my Hunter Orcs--and has a rather powerful defensive special rule on top of all the advantages of being a relatively inexpensive Heroic Monster.

The king's special rule, however, is canceled out by three weapons. One of them can be carried by Thorin, who provides the best bang for the buck in terms of combat potential. And Thorin with said weapon and his shield costs slightly less than the Goblin King, so if you expect the big fat goblin to start popping up Spider-Queen-Like, you're well-advised to take Thorin as a matter of course.
