Hi,

Just wondering people's opinions on the Fellowship and Two Towers journeybooks?
I have the Return of the King one but I've never read the books and the majority of it seemed to not concentrate on the films much.
Are the first two journeybooks pretty much the same?
Are the majority of the scenarios just about the dull hobbit scenes before rivendale?
And are there any good scenarios on Moria and Amon Hen for the Fellowship book?

I liked them all for the terrain and painting guides. I've never played the early scenarios, they do look a bit dull and I'm more interested in fielding armies. However, I have enjoyed the later ones, especially the breaking of the fellowship ones, and the hunt for merry and pippin. I've used these to teach several people how to play the game to good effect.

The two towers has quite a few profiles for Rohan and Isengard that aren't available elsewhere, so if you're looking to build either of those armies it's worth it for that alone.

I think the two towers and fellowhsip of the ring are much better quality than ROTK, especially the painting guides. I would say Two Towers is the best out of all of them I'm not too bothered about hte scenarios though...

what rohan & isengard profiles are we talking about?

ok thanks, is there much on the breaking on the fellowship or does it concentrate mostly on the shire and the road to rivendale?
I have a small Isenguard army but like the scouts a lot more than the armoured uruk hai so I may be better of with the Fellowship Journeybook it sounds like.

I'm a big fan of the Journey Books--especially the Fellowship of the Ring & The Two Towers. The books are great because they allow for an extended campaign where you link the scenarios to play through the entire journey of the fellowship, from Bag End all the way to the fires of Mordor (though some of the rules for linking scenarios are a bit flawed--I'm working on houserules to fix that).


I think it would definitely be worth it to get at least the FotR book. Sure, you'll have a greater appreciation for some of the scenarios if you've read the book (Tom Bombadil/Barrowdowns, warg attack, etc.), but in general the book hits all the high points of the movie. Plus, who doesn't want to fight all nine Wraiths with Gandalf?

I personally like the hobbit scenarios, but there are also some good scenarios in Moria (4) and at Amon Hen (3).
