Theoden is looking great! I agree with Feanor that adding some more mid-tones will help bring the NMM effect to life. I think it was a cool and interesting choice to give Theoden gray hair as well. Most people paint him like in the movies so it is nice to see something different.

Feanor could you mark areas where i should add the midtones?
Kuribo sorry for disappointment, but beard and hair cannot be gray. Instead i tried to make it khaki and partially hoar (?).

Sword is reworked comparing to previous photos, lamellar armor (chainmail?) is done.
Miniature needs just a few hours to be finished and im pretty happy with outcome so far. 8)

Where the lines are would be the transition from a mid-tone to the shadow/highlight. It looks more like you're going straight from a shadow to the highest highlight. For NMM, you want to try and have a slight transition (using a mid-tone) in between them for a more realistic look.

Just get your highlight color and your shadow color, mix them together in a 1:1 ratio, and bam, you have your mid-tone

Hope that helps!

That manticore is fantastic. I can never get my blending that smooth or my highlights that natural. Makes me sad I gave mine away to my no-longer boyfriend. No wings?

GreatKhanArtist thanks, airbrush was used to achieve such look and many glazes.
Wings are currently unattached because it will be easier to paint it also with airbrush without destroying body paintjob.

Great to see more progress on Theoden, Paul. I agree with Feanor on the NMM. I think the shadows on his face are a bit dark/black but they do fit the style he is painted so I wouldn't blame you if you left them alone. The scales look great and if you smooth out the gold, this is going to be a really impressive mini!

Im moving on with the mounted version. I think current version of gold nmm is a bit smoother than on the foot Theoden and also a bit more brownish/reddish. That horse cape, or whatever it is, is very problematic to make it look interesting. There are some attempts to stippling but im not sure if it is visible on photos (made with my smartphone)

Looks great, especially the gold. Often NMM looks too cartoony or stylised, but yours looks very natural

That horse cloak is outstanding. The shadow placement is very well done along with a flowing highlight look as well. Very nicely done

I agree, especially the chainmail on the horse is really amazing. I think the gold on the shield looks a little too dark though, but maybe that's just the picture. Looking forward to more!

I really admire the "shimmer" with the highlights as well. It helps the NMM look real and it is more impressive in NMM than TMM if you know what I mean. Looking forward to seeing more updates on Theoden as he already shaping up well!

Yes! Nicely done with the mid-tones. You can tell a big difference on this one with them, they bring a lot of vibrance and a more realistic effect to the NMM.

Thanks! I'm very proud of that horse armor NMM, different glazes and black+flow improver to blackline every piece were the way to go :D

Here are my new works: Gandalfs and Elven king for a commision, Rohan outrider for a local contest.
I've tried to speedpaint the Outrider, that work took me about 6h and I'm fairly contented.
