Great OSL effect, especially for the first attempt. I'll have to return to this thread when I get around to painting this version of the Witch-king. In my opinion, the model perfectly captures the moment from the books, when Grond breaks the gate of Minas Tirith, and

"In rode the Lord of the Nazgûl, under the archway that no enemy ever yet had passed, and all fled before his face."

I would have loved to see this scene play out in the movies instead of the encounter with Gandalf higher up in the city.

In deed, it's pretty iconic a model and it perfectly fits the scene, as you describe it from the book, as well.

Hello again!

I finally made it! Back at page 9 of this thread and during the summer of 2015 (time flies) I bought and painted Beorn. But I wanted to push my skills a bit at the bases that these 2 models would fit on and make them a bit scenic.
Got back and forth a couple of times, put the human Beorn on a 32 mm base, (he was "suffocating" on the normal 25 mm one) and finally got on to complete and paint the bases. Mind the not so good quality pics following. Here they are:

Hope you like them!

Beorn as a Bear's base is excellent. Nice use of a fallen hunter orc. Twisted wire tree?

Thx guys.
Actually, the tree is a redundant, green stuffed, plastic Ent head.

Thanks pal!!

Here are 3 Mumakil bases in progress, much more work needed than first thought, I truly enjoy how they turn out. Hopefully, I'll finish them in a couple of days.

WiP!! A big one. I've been working on several stuff lately. Inevitably, if I wanted to complete some on my workbench, I had to focus. What's better than to push the Mumakil project, due to their massive size?
This one is very close to complete, tusks, platforms, weathering and some details, namely and then one by one, the rest will follow.

I really like the whiter mumak. Most people paint them a darker shade of grey, so this is a nice change. The Witch King is also fantastic.

Those bases look quite impressive all next to each other! And the first Mumak turned out great as well. Are going to do different paint schemes on the platforms for the other two? Or maybe some War paints on the Mumakil themselves to differentiate them?

Hey ya all!
After a long summeri-ish hiatus, I'm back at the hobby, super excited and all with the new edition and rules and books and models and all!

I haven't purchased anything new, but planning to do so very soon, I'm planning on a big haul.
Every time, I have to find the hidden thread, this is justified, however, since many people keep on doin' excellent stuff, giving the rest of the community some inspiration.

Thank you! Probably, I'll keep the colour scheme on the howdah, the same, the end result is vivid and according to my liking. This specific elephant was painted for a friend in the US, but my mumakil will be painted the same way.
I plan to make 'em look different by adding other kind of details and of course, some body painting.

It's a bit of a blur right now, Mephiston red as a base, adding tanned flesh for the highlights, and using carroburg crimson (something like that, i can't remember the name right now) and leviathan purple for the washes.

Here are some pics (of low quality, the truth is...) of some of my (and my pal, Rififivos' recent projects).

Here's a basecoated Narzug for my extensively converted hunter orc army.

...and here are a couple of converted command pieces on foot and mounted on their wargs.

But, that's not all. Since we knew the new edition was coming, and that the Morannon orcs would be included in the new starter box (no, we didn't know), our conversion-mania erupted. Looking through our collections for bits, we've been hacking and sawing on orcs. Here are some pictures of early WiP on some of my very old orcs.

until next time...

I love your painted hunter orcs, the highlights are in all the right places and the skin tones work perfectly. I'm really considering fielding them against my niece's elves in Battle Companies. I also love the middle orc in the top photo; that mace just seems so right for the orc look. It also seems somehow familiar... it is from the old (c. 2008) Empire Flagellants?

Looking forward to your next update. Did that mumak ever get tusks?

thanks for your feedback, i was a bit worried about the skin tones, they're a bit vivid. I plan to make my hunter orcs quite a force to be remembered, I have tried to convert practically all, but the first 12.
I have to tell you, though, I'm on your niece's side, I'm an avid elf fan.
The Morannon orc in the middle of the top pic, holds a weapon from the hunter orc on fell wargs sprue.
As for the elephant, it bears tusks nowadays, yes! :) and has some body painting on it, as well.

Go for the bright, vivid tones. Use them as part of your signature style. Heck, Glorfindel in your signature is wonderfully bright. One of the things I hate about the old studio style for LoTR was how drab all the models were.

There is a discussion going that the Mumak isn't as good as he once was. So maybe the white elephant is especially fitting?

As for K's elves, they don't need much cheering on, they were a powerhouse against the dwarves! You can check out our Battle Companies posts.

Those hunter orc bosses are excellent. The drums and the whips came out very well.
