I recently jumped back in the hobby because I wanted to get a map based going. I have built the map, but am currently lacking a rule set.

Do any of you have any experience with such campaigns or a preferred set of rules?

I don't but I know that someone did come up with a set a while back for there own game. You might try checking into the work in progress pages to see if there is a thread about it. The author might have the rules liked on his signature. I can see the map I am thinking of but I can not remember the name of the guy that did the work.

I think there were also some attempted at multiplayer maps done by a YouTube group out of Chicago that should still be online if that is something you fancy having a look at.

Perhaps as a community we could create some? I have just been browsing blood in the badlands; which is the old map based campaign for Warhammer fantasy. I could see that being adapted, maybe with the Battle companies rules as a base starting force and the ability to recuit "legendary heroes" into your force based upon objectives or similar? It's all about balancing. I also heard Jay Clare say that he is currently working on some map based campaign rules and depending on it's playtesting we may see it in White Dwarf in the future.

After posting this I found Lonely Knight's rules on his website. They don't look like they are finished, and will need some changes due to the fact that I'm not using a hex based map, but overall I think they give a good baseline with which to work.

I have also made some 3D campaign maps years ago, along with lots of armies, cities and everything. It went from Edoras to Umbar and from Dol Amroth to Mount Doom. I wrote an article on making it, I can send it if you like?
