Hi, I'm returning to the game after a 10 year break, I have been reading up on the rules and I have come across the army bonuses (for example goblin town gets 18 warriors per warband instead of the normal 12).

I am wondering, If I make an army that conists of only one faction such as Goblin town I would get the bonus, but if I take on any allies in my army, for example If I put in some Mordor warbands, would I then not get the army bonus?

I suppose I am asking, do you only get the army bonus if you have a pure one faction army?

Thanks for any answers.

Yes, you only get the army bonus with a pure force.

Aye, that's very much what they are there for: when allying various forces you are often able to make up for some of the weaknesses that your army would otherwise have, so these bonuses are supposed to reward taking an otherwise weaker but more thematic army.

Worth noting though that the only army bonuses for normal games are technically those found in the There and Back Again book. The PDF which contains the rules you mention is an experimental set of rules used at a GW event to test these out, but not all tournaments or casual games will necessarily use them (for the latter you are free if all involved agree, in the former it's up to the tournament organiser). That said, future expansions will likely include them or something resembling them.

Thanks for the replies, and for clarifying their useage, I was a little confused on that too. I hope they do put them in later editions they sound really interesting to me, and like you say a reward for not using the versatility of allied armies.

I thought of another few questions if anyone would mind answering, can models be trapped by friendly models when they are behind the model in combat and blocking it?

Also can supporting models such as goblin spearmen support units with bigger bases like troll?

Can cavalry be supported by spears and pikes?

And can a model strike blows against a supporting model in a fight ( ie, the spearman or pikeman whose base isn't touching the enemy model only the frienly model) ?

Thanks again for any answers.

Limited to just one spear support per model....if that wasn't the rule you could support Troll or a similar large-based model with 5, 6, or even more spears - it'd get out of hand - lol

Just imagine the number of pikes you could get behind a Mumak! But yeah, no, only a single figure can support with a spear.

Any model that spear supports a friendly model in a combat adds 1 additional attack to the fight, at that supporting model's fight value....i.e, a F5 spear supporting Elf behind a F3 Rohan Warrior = 2 total attacks for the fight and the good side's fight value would be F5 (due to the Elf)...
