:yay: Eomer and Glorfindel are probably some of the best painted and converted models I've ever seen.
Which putty did you use for your wraith? (It looks amazing!) :yay:

Hello Everyone! I think it is time to revive this thread :-D .
After finishing high school in 2014 I haven't found much time to do anything for the hobby, as I was quite busy with university. Most of my miniatures, paints and other stuff were put into packing cases. But a few weeks ago I once again felt like painting some miniatures, so I got a few essentials and a handful of miniatures from my parent's house (I don't have a lot of space at home right now) and started painting again.

The product of the first week are Galadriel and Merry & Pippin. With Galadriel I went for a light grey version instead of white. It seemed fitting with this calmer version. I have the version from the old white council set too, if I get to paint that one as well some day, it will be bright white ;) The pictures were taken with my phone, unfortunately I don't have a better option available right now, but I think they came out ok.

Galadriel:

You may notice the bases looking somewhat unconventional as I have decided not to use any sand. At the moment I only have a small box with a variety of grasses and bushes available for base decoration. I have tried to make the bases look nice nonetheless by just painting them brown, getting darker towards the edge, and so far I don't think it looks too bad. Maybe I will go back later and redo all the bases, but for now I think they will stay this way.

I'm not quite sure what I will paint next, I don't have a specific army to paint, as I don't think I will play the game anytime soon (I have only taken metal models with me, so I don't think I could play anything but an all-hero list anyway). I'll probably just go with whatever I like to paint at the moment. Also I might only get to paint something every now and again, so don't expect any sort of regular updates here.

I think that's it for now. I look forward to your comments!

Great use of colour on both models and bases!

Some nice painting on show with no 'rust' apparent after such time away from the hobby. Until you mentioned the bases I hadn't noticed them as they are very effective.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I'm glad you like the bases as well, I was somewhat unsure about them at first.

In the mean time I have painted two more miniatures: Old Bilbo Baggins, and a royal guard of Rohan:

With the royal guard I went for a combination of green and white instead of green and red, much like the color scheme of the sons of Eorl. I quite like the way he turned out.

I'm looking forward to your comments once again!

Happy new year everyone! Here are some miniatures I have painted over the last few days:

Gandalf the White: I quite like the way he turned out, I was a little concerned with all that white...
Image
Image

Aragorn: I'm less sure about him. Something seems off, but I can't put my finger on it.
Image
Image

And finally a banner bearer of the Galadhrim, which I really like. I tried to use the colours of the banner of Finarfin's house on the little emblem.

Thank you for your kind replies! That's really encouraging to me.
In the last week I got some painting done. Starting off with Haldir and one of the wood elf sentinels:

Image
Image

For some reason they look a little glossy on the pictures, this is not the case in reality.

I have been making some purchases on eBay as well, and among them were the armoured versions Merry and Pippin:

Image
Image

I know that they are both wearing elven cloaks, but I still decided to have Pippin's cloak be black/grey and Merry's cloak be green to better fit with the respective armours. Again Pippin's cloak doesn't actually look that glossy

And finally I painted a guard of the fountain court:

Thanks for the comment, garmenhord!
I have been doing some more painting in the last weeks. First just randomly from my backlog: Lurtz and Eomer:
Image
Image

And then I started repainting some high elves, I have gotten to Elrond, Erestor, a warrior missing his shield (and hand) for now:
Image
Image

I like the way the blue turned out quite a lot, but am not so sure about the armour. Has anyone got any advice on how to achieve that greenish-golden look of the armour from the movies?
Also, Elrond will of course receive some vegetation as well, as soon as I get around to that.

I look forward to your comments! Please feel free to criticise as well, that is the way to improve

Looking good man. The green on the armour can be achieved by giving it a wash of heavily diluted with water dark green inbetween the initial basecoat and first highlight stage.

@garmenhord: thanks, I had decided against a hand in Lurtz' face, so I really had to put one on the shield

@DMS: thanks as well, I will try this out next time. I have been doing something similar, applying a green wash after painting the gold regularly, but found that this took away some of the metallic effect.

In the mean time I have put some bushes on Elrond's base, and also painted up Cirdan. Probably the first time I have done a freehand on something other than a banner, so I have kept it rather simple. I originally wanted to do some sort of intricate house symbol on his cloak, but then I just went for a wave:

Image
Image

I'm still not sure wether I like the freehand, what do you think? I also might try to give him eyes, but then again I don't want to mess up the face :o

Furthermore I have started to paint the plastic fellowship from the old starter set. A good way to do a test for the colours before I eventually get to paint the metal versions (I have both the original fellowship and the 'Breaking of the Fellowship' set on my shelf waiting for me :) )
Image
Image

I was surprised how much I liked this version of Gandalf, wasn't fond of Aragorn however.
Next up will be a Haradrim captain and banner bearer, which I will enter into the painting challenge if I can make it in time...

Very nice painting on those guys. Love to see how they look when painted well.
I messed up mine, because i started of with the mines of moria once.
That's one thing i like about the uruk-hai, u can put those painted hands all over them!
Like on their sleeves,... Berserkers are great to for some freehand paintwork.
Anyway keep up the freehand, it's very nice and makes ur mini's more unique.

Well, it's taken quite a while, but I have finally finished the plastic fellowship! Last year already, in fact. First up the hobbits:

Image

And the big people (do dwarves count as big people?):

Image

And a group shot:

I also bought a cave troll off eBay and painted him right away:

You may notice the bases have changed. I am now using structure paste from Vallejo, and I like it a lot so far.
Tell me what you think!
