For those thinking that I may have disappeared, well no, I have been busy setting up a commission service and have completed my first work. These give you an idea of the two of the different standards I can offer
First up is Thrydan Wolfsbane done to an ' above table top standard '

And some Berserkers done to a ' Table top standard '

Unfortunately a poor photo, even worse was that I had photographed the rest of the commission and packaged the figures up to find that the photos were rubbish.
Must work on these things, simply down to me rushing while being a touch under the weather.
Lesson learnt.
That aside the future is looking rosy so far with a few jobs lined up and a little job on something called Smaug...

Thrydan looks god, I never bought that model, seems very simplistic in design to the rest of the line and they never fully gave us a dunland force so I never invested into it (there being so many other companies that make perfect subs in regards to that army).

At least your skills will become very common to you after a while and it will be more routine work, but hope you take breaks once in a while to push skills with something for yourself.

Thanks Sith, yes still have plenty of my own stuff to work on and push my ability. Got Glottkin to finish yet, loads to do there plus some really interesting sculpts.

Photos are VERY revealing, even on 28mm minis. You might want to set up some sort of simple protocol or cheat sheet for yourself that lists every stage of a commission, including getting the photos.
One other suggestion - since digital photos cost effectively nothing, take some images before you finish the mini as these can reveal areas that might need a little tidying up or modification.

I do photo at various stages, quick ones on iPhone to update the customer and check they're happy etc. It also helps me with areas I might want to touch. Not thought of a tick sheet which maybe something to consider as a few jobs are coming in.
Thrydan was not done to my highest scale as per customer request.

Smaug is next on the table, this one will be to display standard.

The little figure on the second photo is 54mm !!! Its big. The client had done some greenstuff work which needs attention, that and all the joining will take some time.
I am using modelling paste to fill the joins and so far I am really liking it, certainly cuts the time down when there is so much to do.

I will leave the head and wings off to get started on the painting, maybe the tail also.

Unfortunately the client glued the legs on wrong so it won't fit the base, I'm doing a bit of adjustment to make it fit the base but hopefully you won't see it.

It should be fine, once the whole thing's assembled it's quite difficult to see a lot of the details on the base so it probably won't matter too much if the feet are slightly off. Really looking forward to seeing your progress on Smaug

I've dry fitted Smaug and I'm just about happy so I made a start on the base. Started on the gold and will proceed by blocking in the casks etc.
I had to resculpt the coins near the right foot and it looks like I've got away with it.

Well I don't envy anyone who has to paint this and part with it. Such a great model (I will never own I am sure). Good luck with the task, the shiny gold is the least of your worries at this point.

Thanks guys, nice point Paul. My method for wood starts off a white base so I will spend a few moments priming each one so in theory I should have thema accounted for.

You've achieved a very realistic gold there meaning the hoard looks suitable impressive for it's owner (whomever that may be).
