Hi guys, I'm back after a long break due to some GCSEs and a holiday in the South of France. So, if you please, I'd like some critique on this list, which is at the moment looking like a strong favourite to take to the Longbottom Carnival at the end of the month. Anyway, here goes:

Warband 1:
Isildur, shield, horse, The One Ring (leader)
6 Warriors of Numenor, shields, spears

Warband 2:
Gil-Galad, shield, armoured horse
7 Kingsguard, spears, shields

Warband 3:
Erestor
7 Kingsguard, spears, shields
1 High Elf Warrior, banner

Alfred
12 Laketown Guard, spears

700pts exactly
38 models
No bows.

As you can see, the tactic is a shield wall led by Erestor with the elves in the front line, supported by Laketowners, Alfred and a banner. The Numenoreans will either be added onto one end of this, or more likely, used to support the two mounted heroes in flank and rear charges.

The kingsguard are just in case I come up against other elves a only other thing would maybe be swapping Gil-Galad for the twins, but to be honest, I'm not so sure how I feel about that, although they would probably be more useful.

Enough from me, what do you guys think?

Thanks, Lord Elrond

Its an interesting list.

Although if I was about to face you prob would aim Erestor warband (since you got no shooting) to get some dwarves...

Those elves look fantastic indeed, but they dont have enough strength to push on hard defence foes. They will just likely to win combats more often, but those that loose you gonna get into big trouble as normally oponents relie on S4 armies, on a 5+ the elves gonna die, just a bit better roll than you normally require to take down the laketown guards...

I would suggest replacing Erestor group for a Durin´s Folk one, bit slower but considerably sturdier (since its shieldwall business you want, you can´t go better at that job than dwarves)

And dont bother supporting the spears, the dwarves are just there to shield bash to push stuff away, the elves can go there after to lend some support.

Now here the big deal... which heroe to take.

At 1st glance since you got powerfull heroes I would bet on a more friendly supporting dwarf, in this case Floi. He will help shut down major enemy special rules in case you need, like the dwimmerlaik sap M/W/F or grima Devlan Mud sneaky advice(yes its likely for you to take on an isengard army with mounted grima) so shuting him down might be a good idea.

The problem of Floi on this Regard might be that you need Durin´s folk stuff to kill heroes and monsters to gain will back.
With him I would suggest for you to take Bombur in the list, hes still quite sturdy and can help Floi on that will return quite well leas to keep his will at 3.

I would suggest the following:

Warband 1:
Isildur, shield, horse, The One Ring (leader)
6 Warriors of Numenor, shields, spears

Warband 2:
Gil-Galad, shield, armoured horse
7 Kingsguard, spears, shields

Warband 3:
Floi StoneHand
6 khazad guards
3 dwarf warriors with shield
1 dwarf warrior with shield and banner

Warband 4:
Alfred
12 Laketown Guard, spears

And you ended up with a bit more models :P

Sounds solid, Galanur, but I love the aesthetic of the elves and last alliance, so I don't really want any dwarves. The twins or Gil-Galad?

Yes, I know that S4 armies will be a problem, because I don't have that many models, and I'm relying on D6 to keep me alive for a while.

The problem of elves its the lack of punch but you can solve that with some cheese on it though... try axes :P

like:

Warband 1:
Isildur, shield, horse, The One Ring (leader)
3 Warriors of Numenor, shields, spears

Warband 2:
Gil-Galad, shield, armoured horse
7 Kingsguard, spears, shields

Warband 3:
Elladan and Elrohir with heavy armour
6x high elves with hand weapon(axe)
1 high elf with shield and banner

Warband 4:
Alfred
10 Laketown Guard, spears

I know you reduced the numenorians but then... you wont need much jsut basically to protect isildur at deployment after that hes kinda on his own together with gil galad.
The Twins control the flow of your battle line and they support the elves at it. if in case need be, alfred can also boost the twins might which can prove effective.
what you think?

It's a bit low on numbers, especially considering that most of the army is D5 or less, tbh. It's too much to have Gil-Galad, Isildur and Gil-Galad at this level. Add another 150pts up ro 850, then yes, but now, I think you suffer too much on the numbers side if you take all three.

Erestor is good. Re rolls to wound, F6, D7, 3 fate, and in this list with a spear support and a banner. All Kingsguard is good, no? What is that one extra guy really going to do in all my other games. But when I play against elves or Reavers or f5 heroes or something, it's so worth it, because in every single fight, I win all the draws.

Yeah, but then only 6 points for the spear support. If I'm going to pay 11 anyway, I might as well pay one extra to make them pretty much unassailable. If my opponent has to spend might to heroic strike against troops, then it's a win for me, because I should have the advantage in might for heroic moves, marches and combats etc.

Ops yeah, so there are only certain tournaments that does not allow it. It is really effective and Isildur is maybe the best choice to keep it.

Yeah. Just being able to walk up to anyone with effectively 6 Attacks with a banner and a support and say I have a higher fight value than you no matter what you do makes Gil-Galad's fight 9 seem like a frailty.

I'm pretty set on my troops composition. The only real question left to me is the immortal one: Gil-Galad or the twins?
