Remember, acording to GW all people are interested in is loyalist space mariness :/
The main issue is the priceing and lack of promotion, the former being the more severe problem because it puts off everyone who would be interested.

I think a new core book could potentially be a bad thing, because I'm pretty sure GW would only put in the profiles for minis that they currently sell. So we would potentially lose all of those wonderful troop types that have sadly gone out of production, limiting the gamers choice tremendously. On the indie scene it may be okay to reference previous sourcebooks I guess, but I can't see that happening at official GW events.

Now GW have said there will be a supplement in WD weekly issue 46 i don't think we will see any new rule or source books.

I think the many releases we'll be seeing in the upcoming weeks will prove the swan song to the game, after which I fear GW will allow it to slowly die.

On last week's supplement, it certainly does suggest that GW don't see another DoS-style book as being a worthwhile investment. That said, since DoS, GW have pulled White Dwarf from the newsstands to try and improve footfall to the stores. This week and next week's issues both have free stuff for 40K in them, all of which is designed to get even more people into the stores (it worked on me, I hadn't been in one for months before last week). So the switch from book to free giveaway booklet has a purpose for GW and isn't them just washing their hands of it.

As far as I'm aware, the license still has two or three years to run. Presumably GW couldn't just sit on it and do nothing with it. Licenses usually have clauses in them to prevent that from happening (which is why Sony keep churning out Spider-Man and X-Men movies). That's not to say it'll require them to keep producing new product, but it might require them to produce something new every so often

Sadly I don't think Christopher Tolkien is going to sell the movie rights to it.

You don't know that. I feel like it's much more likely that we will be getting a further update then not.

I actually agree with you but please refrain from posting personal opinions as if they are facts.

Unless you are privy to some information that we're not aware of?

I think a lot of people have misunderstood the original post. I figured there'd be more Sourcebooks but not a new core book

If GW had any sense they would allow archive sales similar to what Iron Wind Metals does with Battletech. Basically you pay a small archive fee in addition to the cost of the model. I know I would pay a few extra bucks just to avoid the hassle of searching/waiting on something to come up on ebay. LOTR is a well known enough IP that there will always be a trickle of people buying stuff.

And with various methods of more affordable 3d printing on the horizon, it shouldn't be as difficult as they claim to maintain production on things.

¨Oh you want a Gildor? Pay $5 extra and we'll print/mold you one, just add a few days for shipping¨
