My thoughts exactly. My mom actually sent me this song as I was still there.

For those of you waiting for an update, there's no need to wait any longer. Well, for some of you, you will since I forgot to take pictures of the winged nazgul I'm working on. But I have been busy. Both with life and doing hobby stuff here and there.

I started a test model for my Rangers of Gondor so I can figure out how I want to paint them. If you can remember, my Gondor army has a Red/white colour scheme, so I need to somehow make this work for rangers who usually adorn dark colours to stay hidden. So far, the colours are in the right places but they seem too bright. I'll need to darken them up a bit. For those with good eyesight you'll notice that the hilt and other bits of metal are a reddish metallic hue. He's far from finished. This is just a couple of layers.

Image

Image

And now onto some terrain. I had this outcrop of trees but the green was too bright for me. So I washed it with a dark brown colour.

Image

And Lurtz for scale:

Image

Ruins of Osgiliath that I painted white a few years ago:

Image

A light brown wash:

Image

Filling in the large gaps with Spackle and then washing them. This stuff really works and looks great on terrain; especially on ruins and nature terrain.

Image

Image

And lastly, here is a 4' x 4' battle board that I'm making. The lines you see is the old glue that used to hold on a block of insulation foam that I was using for the Deeping Wall part of my Helm's Deep project. Unfortunately, I forgot to take off the plastic lining off of the foam so it fell off and my mom needed a table for little kids while I was gone so she used this board as her table. And it was left out in the wind, rain, and snow for two years or so. I didn't want to use a beat up board for my Helm's Deep so instead I'll turn it into a battle field so I can play battles on a different board other than Helm's Deep.

Image

I'm going to need more dirt! :o

So there you have it. I have other stuff to do and upload but I need pictures first. I hope this satisfies you for the time being. Thanks again everybody! :-D

Those ruins are a set you can purchase from GW. Osgiliath ruins to be exact.

Thanks for the comments guys. :)

So here is an update on the orcs that I painted up. Unfortunately, I didn't put the pictures up on time for the competition. But that's ok. These first four pictures are what I posted on the challenge page.

By the way, there will be tons of pictures in this post!

And this is the fifth member that I painted along with other converted orcs (and some that aren't) that I finally finished basing.

And all together now! :-D

And that's it for the orcs. I'm greatly pleased with the conversions. Very simple to do and the soon there will be not one orc look-alike in my collection! :D Hope you enjoyed!

Thanks Sithious. I'm quite proud of these orcs actually. Though I do want to add bow strings to the archers.

So here are the models that I'll be working on for this months challenge: two Khandish warriors and two Khandish horsemen. It's been a long time since I painted one of these warriors but I'm looking forward to it. But first I need to sculpt a horse leg... :?

Image

Sorry there isn't any paint on them yet. Just wanted to let you know my plans. Thanks for the support guys!

Nice work. The orcs look good, and I especially like the terrain from a few posts back. I look forward to what you do with the khnadish warriors.

I haven't had much time to spend on the hobby but I did get something done. I don't have pictures yet but I was able to sculpt the missing horse leg for my Khandish horseman. My friend that looked at it said he wouldn't have noticed that it was sculpted if I hadn't mentioned it to him. I think it could use some work though. I am definitely not well learned in horse anatomy. Hopefully I'll find time to actually paint these guys as the Khandish warriors are amongst my favorite models to paint.

A small update on the Khandish Warriors!

These four are the ones that I've been working on. The horse on the far right is the one that I had to sculpt the front right leg (facing the camera).

Image

Image

Image

Image

Just to show the armour a little closer. I don't have any close ups of the sculpted horse leg.

Image

Image

And this is the original colour that I started painting a couple of years ago. You can tell that the purple on the new model is a more darker colour under neath which is what I was going for. However, I realized as I took this picture that I used the wrong shade of blue for the armour. I used turquoise first which I liked but accidentally used enchanted blue without realizing it. Oh well. You might also see that the older armour is shinier. It is, because I used a layer of Ardcoat to give it that glassy colour. I used the same stuff on my Mumak's eyes to make them look wet like real eyes do.

Image

Image

Image

I'll be adding more layers to certain areas but they are really close to being finished. I would say that these are by far the funnest models I've painted. The eyes will need extensive work as well. Thanks for the comments guys! :)

I loved painting those models. They look great so far. Really like the banner design you went with.

I have a few updates! First, let's look at the orc banner carrier I converted.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

It's really top heavy so I used a coin to balance him.

You'll notice that the flag does not belong to Mordor orcs but to Gondor. Why is this orc carrying it then, you may ask? Because. He stole it!

So. I've always fancied the idea of making a scenario for "Capture the Flag." I already have it all written out on paper, but I want to hear from all of you guys. I'll put it up here in my next post so you can take a look at it.

And here we have my Khandish Warrior.

Image

Image

Image

Image

I'm quite proud of him. He turned out really well. I decided to do a different banner design on this model than the one on the chieftain. I think I'll do that to separate them into cavalry and infantry.

What do you guys think? Comments and criticism are very welcome.
Thanks!

Thanks guys! I'm going to be using this banner in the painting challenge actually. Plus, I also have a converted Orc captain though he isn't quite finished.

Here is a small update. I just started my first semester of college and so I haven't had any time for hobbies.

This is a gaming table that I'm working on. I've put plaster on parts of it to level out the warped and splintering wood. I then added some hills to it and some dirt. It's got quite a ways to go.

Image

This hill most likely won't be here.

Image

Image

Image

Image

That's it for now. I posted proof pics in the Total Warfare Diorama challenge and so that will be my focus for the next few months. I'll keep you updated on that as I get things rolling.

I wanted to get your opinions on this scenario that I've written out. It's an idea that I've always had in the back of my mind and now it's written down. Let me know what you think.

Capture the Flag
The enemy has set up camp and the troops rally to the army’s banner. If it can be captured, the enemy resistance will diminish.

THE ARMIES
Choose as normal with the exception that no banners may be fielded.

LAYOUT
Two camps with a banner in the center and a watchtower to the side are set on either side of a river, which runs down the middle of the map with a small bridge in the center and a small shallow crossing in the south. A few outcrops of trees and rocks dot the field.

STARTING POSITION
Models start anywhere within 12” of their respective board edges.

INITIAL PRIORITY
Players role a D6. The highest role deploys first and has priority.

OBJECTIVES
Capture the Flag. If a model moves into base contact with the flag and spends the Fight phase without being in contact with an enemy model, he may pick up the flag and move as normal. The flag must be carried back to their own base. The first side to score 2 points wins. If the flag carrier is killed, the flag is dropped and may be carried back home. Only then is it allowed to be carried by the owning force.

SPECIAL RULES

The Flag. The flag inspires its troops as all other flags, no matter who holds it. (Even if it’s in the hands of the enemy!) The banner acts as normal but its effects extend to 6” rather than 3”. Only models on foot may carry these banners.

The Crossings. The river is swift and deep and can only be crossed at the bridge and the ford. The ford counts as difficult terrain.

Restrictions. Only core warriors and captains can carry banners. (i.e. Rohan warrior, Uruk-hai captain, etc.)

Reinforcements. As models are slain, set them aside. In the next Move phase, role a D6 for each model. See the chart for details.

Respawn Chart
1 The model does not respawn.
2-5 The model can be placed anywhere inside the base or 2” around it.
It can act normally but cannot charge.
6 Place the model as above, but the model may charge if possible.
