Well it's been over a month but here's some of what I'm up to at the minute. I'm painting up some Ringwraith's for the Painting Challenge.

Here's the first one completed. C & C welcome! :)

Love the Bag End diorama on the previous page, excellent work. The Ringwraith is superb too, stands out nicely against the grey background.

Very nice work on the Ringwraith, do I detect a hint of blue (possibly shadow grey) in the highlights?

Afraid not Crucium. Good shout though. I mixed in Ushabti Bone with black for the successive highlight layers on the Ringwraith and this does give a slightly blue-grey tone once applied.

So, I decided to jump on and do some Rohan miniatures. Here is my first Rohan miniature ever painted. Really characterful mini! I stuck half a needle through the orc's hand and into his chest followed by some greenstuff work for fletching as I felt that it needed something to show what he was dying from! I've also decided to start basing all of my miniatures on thinner bases. It just looks more realistic once modelled on and blends better with scenery for pics. Lots more Rohan in my collection still to do... C & C welcome 8)

And a scenic pic or two:

Honestly, this miniature alone makes me want to start collecting Rohan. You certainly did it justice too. Awesome job

That Rohan Captain is amazing! Really like the additional arrow in the orc! :D
I always liked the GW miniature, and you have painted it very well!

The Ringwraith looks great! Do you have any tips on how to paint the black cloth? I'm struggling with my own wraiths and am too afraid to touch them again, only to make a mess out of it again >.<

One of the best minis produce for LOTR and you've done an excellent job with it.

Hey David, it's funny how you used "muted" tones, but the model doesn't look dull. Well done.
It's also nice that this model gets positive feedback from most of the community, even though it arrived relatively late, when for most of the releases, people were divided to say at least.

Black can be tough to get right without it looking grey. I start with a black basecoat obviously and then a layer over all but the recesses with a mix of Black and a very small amount of Ushabti Bone. This means that you're no longer working off a straight black so it becomes easier to highlight IMO. After that, I mix in more Ushabti Bone steadily and highlight the mini until a final thin highlight of approximately equal quantities of Black and Ushabti Bone. Make sure you take your time making sure that brush control is spot on and the highlights are going in the right places. I actually found the Wraiths quite easy to highlight because there are a lot of ragged edges to their clothing.

Thanks George. Yeah, this is most certainly a fantastic sculpt. A joy to paint really because there's so much character in it :)

Managed to get this mini completed for this month's challenge. Didn't spend as much time on it as I would have liked but time was very hard to come by this month! Still, I'm pleased with the result and tried my first desert-style base (credit to BrushStroke for the excellent tutorial which I took and changed slightly to suit the look I was after).

Excellent job on these guys. I think the desert base turned out very nice, and the shading on your guards' skin is really good.

Nice work! How did you make that desert base? I would love to try that out!
