Nicely done with the Goblin, a very effective conversion.

I like the weapon and shield. 8) Fine wire and thread might work better than green stuff sometimes. You can use leather and paper punches for more shapes. A paper punch will make it easier to make billhooks for example.

Some upcoming projects. Dwalin, a goblin shaman (for use with the Moria shaman profile), adding a cloak and armour to the 'black shield' and creating an Erebor captain with Dwalin's spare dual wield arms. All extremely wip.

The question is, if you were a potential opponent would you allow me to use these converted goblin town gobbos as the Moria profiles?

The only issue I think would be with the goblin shaman and his line of sight. It may be an advantage for the goblin player, or for their opponent if he has bows in his force.

I absolutely would let you because thats cool nice work. I dont care if someone doesnt use the models even if I spent a bunch on them if they make nice conversions.

Why do almost all of my best ideas end up being done by someone else, and to a much better standard than I could ever hope to achieve?

This is a compliment by the way.

[quote="VictoryGin"]Have started a prototype for my Goblin Town/Moria project, in which I hope to amalgamate the factions with GT's models and aesthetic but Moria statlines. For example, a Gundabad Blackshield with shield and spear:

I need to add a helmet but this is my first venture into plasticard and i'm struggling! Any advice?

Liking the look of this little guy, been tempted to get some lately because the models look so fun to convert.
Looking really good!

for most shapes, score and break your way to as close to the shape as you can.

also search for more articles and tutorials, never know what else you will find.

Thanks for appreciation and advice guys.

I started work on Balin, Champion of Erebor. Probably my favourite of Thorin's company and my first time painting a member of said company. The metal definitely needs work, but I am happy with the face, just going to add a whisky drinker glaze of some sort (bloodletter??). Also, his mace shaft snapped despite handling it very gently, so I did a quick fix with a pin and some green stuff to block in a new shaft (haft?).

Image

I also wanted to test out a warm white/tan colour for my new Harad army, and as at the time I didn't have any Harad figures, I tried it out on Saruman. I have since seen a nicer way of painting him and learned a lot more, so will probably strip him but here he is anyway.

Image

I bought some new toys (which probably won't even see a drop of glue for months, waiting on an airbrush):

And finally, a sneak peek of what's to come next, a nice package from
Andreas Fosheim Øwre from the Facebook LotR trade group. Can you see what they are? How exciting...

Thanks for looking.

Glaze of scab red (old name) on the nose will bring out the alcoholic in him.

Thanks Gene, I will give that a go. It was your dwarf rangers which supplied me with the idea many moons ago :)

Thanks, that's very humbling. They're sitting unfinished in a box in front of me still. Must be 18 months or so. Today I tried a similar glaze with blood red (old) flash gitz yellow and a touch of bleached bone. More of a rosy cheek look but it went well. something else to consider?

Nice haul. Painting is coming along great. There are tips to be found all over the place, tale of painters for one would help.
Reminds me that I should post some metal Serpent riders for trade, have two mint boxes and not sure I even want one.

I have painted a test model for my Harad. Input please! Not fully highlighted etc but just trying it out with basecoat, wash, reapply basecoat. Might use grey or white primer with a black wash to darken the recesses and bring out the detail so it's easier to paint.

Lost my motivation a bit as the awesome Harad army I had planned may not turn out as wonderful as I hoped, my painting on this model was at a low ebb it seems..

Colour scheme isn't too bad though I would look to a slightly sandier colour for the pants.

It's Zandri dust, I think it might look a little 'olive drab'-ish in the photo.

I am going to spray some figures tonight to try again with a white primer.

This is a silly question, but what is the easiest way to manually highlight? Just wash and reapply basecoat, then edge highlight? I have painted maybe 50 figured by now and still can't consistently highlight. Sometimes it looks great and sometimes it looks atrocious. Some people say to thin your paint a lot, which I do, but sometimes I end up with patchy coverage which despite further coats never seems to go away, and other times I end up with lumps and bumps despite waiting for the paint to dry before reapplying. I seem to be hitting roadblocks at every turn and it is very discouraging!

Take Balin for example. If I apply thick paint to the beard, it clogs detail. If I apply thin paint, it doesn't go where I want it. I have spent hours trying to find a middle ground.

I need pointers! I have read/watched hundreds of painting tutorials and videos but as I don't have anybody to ask questions, I am struggling.

Thanks,
VG

I have 2000 models under my belt and feel the same way. :) But thinning your paints for applying layers is a great way to transition from a midtone to highlight. The practice brings more brush control and you will improve. It helps to read many painting articles too, there are so many out there. Seeing how people made awesome paint jobs will help you to make better decisions about how you approach your own miniatures.
