Lake town Master is fantastic, really rich colours with excellent shading to create the contrast, very well done.
Bag End looks the part as well. What are you planning for the windows ?
Imresuming the banks will be grassed over and once you have that colour it will set it off brilliantly. Make sure you paint the banks with earth tones first, it will help create the depth.

Thanks Gandlaf.
The windows will be added near the end. I'm going to cut the inserts from plastic tubing and then glue a piece of blister packaging on top of the "ring" of tubing to create the glass effect.
Yes the banks will indeed be grassed over and grass/vegetation will be growing up the wall of Bag End to reach the roof which will also be given a thick covering of grasses. Thanks for the tip on painting the banks with earth tones - I will be sure to do that! :)

One thing I noticed with grass is the uniformity in colour. I didn't want that so I painted it, first using various thin dark greens and browns to add the darkness then when dry drybrushed areas with yellows whites buffs etc.

Great Master of Laketown!!! I've almost finished painting this guy too. Incredible amount of detail on the model which you have picked out well.

Love your paint job on The Master, really well done, a time consuming paint job i am sure.

Bag End is looking very nice, looking forward to future updates.

Thanks for the comments guys - sorry it's been a while... :(

Anyway I finally got some more painting done at the weekend and managed to get Girion, Lord of Dale done all in one day - which is pretty quick for me as I normally take a lot longer over a paint job. However, for this one I just really wanted to get a miniature from priming to finished article as quickly as possible.

Considering I haven't painted anything in about 3 months, I'm very happy with how this looks. I decided to try something different with the base and went for a real scenic style - tried to make it look like Dale during Smaug's attack.

I really enjoyed painting this one and had no trouble with the Finecast at all :D Some really nice tones to paint and overall a nice miniature. Only thing is that I can't help but think of him calling out "Fore!" as he looks at the sky!!!

Anyway here are some pictures:

Thanks for looking and comments and criticism most welcome :)

Haha :-D Yeah I did think about putting some freehand on the banner but unfortunately I just didn't have the time. Maybe I'll revisit it over the holidays and add on a design or something...

Never easy to paint after a long gap but you've done a great job, you are rightly pleased.

Excellent looking paint job, the banner really adds to the model, as if Girion is judging wind direction.

The banner is a wonderful touch. With it the this turns into a mini-diorama that tells a story instead of just being a single moment.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. Glad you like it :)

I got this guy painted up today. Similarly to the Girion, I didn't spend as long on it as I would have liked - kind of rushed it a bit in order to move on to something more interesting... It's a nice mini and there weren't really any flaws with the resin except a little tiny air bubble at the end of his nose which took a bit of Liquid Greenstuff to fix but it wasn't too bad.

Here are some pics:
ImageImageImageImage

What struck me about this mini though was how small it was. Height-wise, it's pretty much the same as the LotR stuff, but it is so much thinner! I compared it to my Elrond, Master of Rivendell model and boy are they different! It's hard to believe that they're meant to be part of the same range of minis, let alone the same race in Middle Earth. Elrond looks huge in comparison and his head, especially the face, is almost twice the size! That's possibly why I found the face a bit harder on the Captain...

Anyway, I enjoyed painting it for the most part, but I'm looking forward to getting back into some of the 'proper' LotR minis. I've almost felt that the Mirkwood Elves minis, both rangers and warriors, have been far too skinny and "Warhammerish" in comparison to the LotR range, if "Warhammerish" is even a word!!! :-D

Also, I thought now might be a good time to mention Bag End. Well, not much progress since the last update and, to be honest, I'm a little apprehensive about completing it in the current form. I just don't feel like the inside of the hall looks good enough after painting it. So what I'm considering doing is making the back of it (the inside of it) into the start of "the hill" instead, leaving a little alcove just within the door to allow Bilbo to stand in/in front of. I also felt that the green door looks so nice that it would be a shame for it to be totally swung open and invisible from the front of the piece. I just feel that this would better serve the miniatures and look more natural. Thoughts?

Thanks for looking, sorry about the length of post and comments and criticism most welcome :)

Nice work on the elf, sometimes a quick paint job can work, here's the evidence.
As for Bag End, can you show some photos of where your at, it will give a better idea of your issues and how to find a resolution.
