Welcome to the 2014 / 2015 Tale Of 'X' Painters.

This is the registration thread. You have until the end of the month to sign up for this year-long challenge. Once you are signed up, you have no escape (unless of course real life demands you forfeit the challenge in which case you are more than welcome to leave if you must).

The Tale Of 'X' Painters will begin on November 1st and run until October 31st 2015.

Please post any questions you may have and I will answer them as soon as possible.

Here are the rules...

Rules:

To keep this as a 'Tale' everything will be documented through one WIP thread in the Work In Progress forum. The first 12 posts will be reserved to contain everybody's work completed in each month throughout the year and as such will act as a summary of the Tale as our story develops.

Entrants must post a picture of their unit each month before it has been painted. A picture of the completely painted unit needs to be posted before the end of the month to have legitimately completed the challenge at the end of the 12 month period.

Please feel free to create your own WIP thread if you want to, but to keep the tale going you need to post a completed unit in the dedicated Tale Of 'X' Painters thread.

The definition of a unit for this is a group of 8 foot warriors, a character (or group of characters if you are going by War Of The Ring, which I do not have to hand so am not following), 2 mounted warriors, or a siege weapon / monstrous creature. For example, painting Orcs over the space of the next year I could have 6 mounted Hunter Orcs (3 months) 24 Hunter Orcs (3 months) 16 Gundabad Orcs (2 months) led by Bolg, Azog, Mounted Yazneg and Gundabad Orc Captain (4 months).

This may not seem like a lot to some, but those painters among you that are anything like myself, will see that as a challenging enough task for completion over 1-year. This is intended for painters (or gamers) in need of motivation getting going with an army, or who take aaaaaaaages to get paint to their minis, like myself.

The challenge is to enter units so that you can have a nicely painted army at the end. In order to stick to the spirit of the game, do not repeatedly enter with single characters and expect it to count, be sensible and enjoy as our very own tale unfolds.

Please register your interest in the tale here, and as above, feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Seems a great idea but as I don't play the game I don't work toward set armies, I just paint figures that take my interest or dioramas.
I will have to reluctantly pass on this as I cannot see me ever painting 8 figures in a month?
Saying that I've about 20 to do for my diorama by December, plus the diorama itself, life has been taking over of late.

Welcome on board cal. Not to worry Gandlaf, I was exactly the same but felt like a change and having a fully painted army. I'd never use it for gaming purposes mind you.

As I am planning a relatively small scale Harad army, I may run out of figures for a year long commitment (maybe if the Mumak counts as 6 months...). Was wondering if it would be ok if I perhaps painted one force for the first 6 months and another for the second, primarily because I enjoy painting multiple smaller forces than one large one.

Thanks,
VG

Funny you should say that. I was going to add a rule saying people can split the 12 months into 2 armies should they want to do that. So yes go for it. 6 months for 1 army and 6 months for the other. Feel free to alternate months between each army if it makes it more interesting for you.

I went back and forth about whether I wanted to try a challenge this large or not. In the end, I decided I'd rather try and fail than pass up the opportunity and regret it. Sign me up, and I'll be building an army of Rivendell!

Now to decide on the army :-/
I might do my swan host and fiefdoms armies as they will be superb when painted :-)
Can then do a conversion in forlong mounted too :-)

Hobbits will be my second army!

I will add a WIP post so tht I can add photos of the two armies as they stand now :)

Thanks for the add

Leo

I have a question...Is this like the monthly painting challenges, in that models must not be painted at the beginning of the month? I was looking ahead at the coming year, and I know that I will have some busy months in March and June. I was wondering if I finish the previous month's challenge, can I go ahead and get a jump start on the following month's challenge?
