Breathtaking! When I was trying to form a plan in my head of what to do and how it would look I couldn't imagine it looking as good as what you've just put together. You really are a master. I will try to copy what you've done 100% when I begin working on it which is likely Sunday once I buy more materials.

Luckily I alread have some of the scribor ruins, I'm planning to put them around the rock/water. :) thanks so much :D

This is a column you also might want to consider from the ruined tower mold #65. Really not difficult to paint. I need 32 so I am going to make a custom mold. I was considering this lay out but decided to put eight on the mold instead. The small statues are not available yet they are prototypes for me to test.

Curiously, I have this project in mind for some time. But I had started at the top, by the dome.
The measures that were calculated were similar to those of Celevue, although slightly bigger, but can be adjusted easily now with the numbers from Celevue, thanks a lot.
Here a picture with templates for the dome and the base on which to stick. A section of cardboard and then was copied many times as needed for the rest, and stick together.

I had think about 10 sections for the dome, but after seeing the calculations from Celevue I think the right thing are 12 sections, and two rows of 36 small columns each on the second floor, one outside at the limito of the doom and another inside coinciding with the inner edge of the calculation of Celevue.

I also put some images taken from the ground and drawing of Mithril council table. It's not the same as the film but can serve.

When you make a drawing of the dome (and if you do also the ground as in the movie) do not forget to scan or take a picture from above perpendicular, and upload them here so that others can use them.

And for Celevue: for the statues attached to the interior columns I used a copy of the front of the miniature of Galadriel from GW (the one with horizontal arms) made with Green Stuff and Instant Mold, and looks very good.
I will make a photo and put here to show you.

@ Oldman willow thanks for the picture, I've put through some big orders including Hirst Arts mould #45 and #65, lots of depron foam 3mm (I forgot the 6mm but going to just stack the 3mm), a hot wire cutter, a foam blade and various woodland scenic items for 2 other projects (A Laketown diorama and a diorama of The Last Alliance vs Sauron). Once they all arrive in the mail I can begin :D

@Mirva, very interested to see how it turns out. The dome does look better than the version I'm going for but I'm just trying to keep it basic. That floor pattern is great however I'm going to try copy the movie one, from memory I believe it's a sort of leafy pattern I'll have to research it before starting. Those scrolls and maps look stunning by the way!

@mirva, looking forward to further photos! At this point I have no plans to build the full piece, but am interested to see your dome & statues!

@GD, good luck with your project! Looking forward to progress photos!

Just thought I'd drop in for a quick update, work has begun on the chamber. So far I haven't run into any troubles. I'll be putting pictures up later in the week :)

Here's some of the work I've been doing. So far I've cut out most of the templates, just waiting on a different knife for the arches as I tried one with the Stanley knife and it didn't get the desired result.

Image

My Hirst Art moulds arrived also for the columns, I'm just waiting on the same order stated above for the plaster. I had never seen what the moulds looked like and I got to say they're pretty cool, and so tiny!

I've slowly done a bit more work every few nights over the last 2 weeks.
The walls/arches came together pretty nicely. A few of my measurements were slightly off so I'll have to add in some foam so the joins meet.

Here's the hirst art columns, bit more tricky than I originally thought even after watching the video/tutorial Oldman Willow but I eventually got the hang of it and each one has progressively come out better.

Next I plan to keep working on the moulds and to fill the wall with the bevelled designs that Celevue demonstrated earlier in the thread.

For your cylinder, cement tubing comes to mind. It's just a big cardboard tube you can buy at the reno store. They use it for pouring cement in for desk posts. It's fairly thick, though.

You might try painting the plaster into cracks and crevasses. It's a pain in the butt, but it does make some of the detailed pieces come out better.
