Just been catching up on your works of the past year and as always it has been a pleasure, lots of amazing paint-jobs not to forget the great conversions from Dave. Great work both of you.

Saw an Alfrid the Councillor that looked similar to your style online but other than that I'm clueless and would love to know.

Well its all over for another year. Wish I could say I enjoyed it as much as last year but I won't bore you all on here. Full story in The Marshes.

Well I didn't make the cut with my entry this year but can't complain, The Golden Demon competition is full of the very best painters in the world and it was an honour to just have a model in the same glass display case as them. Watch your back you lot I'm not giving up and will be back for more in 2015.

Here are a couple of pictures of my entry although there is a ton more pics up on my site at www.thedeadmarshes.com

I've added the model to my Cool Mini Or Not Gallery which you can find HERE if you would like to register a vote. I really appreciate the continued support.

Comments much appreciated and thanks for looking.

Stunning, the more you look the more you see! the spider webs are incredible. I would say one of your best pieces yet, just incredible.

Did you make the building?

That is an incredible display piece! Wow! My favorite part is the hidden room's lighting effect

Well Kev what can I say. That is truly a fantastic piece. The base is incredible and the painting is above top notch. My favourite of your pieces by a long way, I cannot get past how good the base is. Personally I think you'd have done the base more justice by choosing a model with more vibrant colours as Theoden can seem dull in terms of colour however that's nothing against your painting skill at all. A fantastic piece and you were unlucky to not get selected for the final cut. Better luck next year mate, might see you there if I can find the time to get down there.

A well painted figure on a stunning base. If I could I would add. Few things that I believe will help.
Theodens armour needs more contrast, it looks a little flat, some cold colours for the shading to add depth and yellows to bring up the highlights.
His face needs a similar approach with some reds to make him pop. For example the Gandalf by 10ball got bronze. You can see how he has pushed his contrasts throughout the figure.

No doubting your style though Kev, another great job.

One of your best by far. Sorry you didn't get in. I wonder how much of it is down to the style bias, rather than technical skill. What I mean is that you seem to get great results with traditional layering*, but most of these competition winners are done in what I would call 'pro' style (bad label I know) Essentially the type with soft transitions, source lighting, contrasting colours hot and cold for highlights and shades, and a heavy use of glazes. Ironically, all the ways citadel don't encourage you to paint. The more I explore painting techniques the more I'm convinced that there's an accepted, almost rigid style for high end minis, and anything that doesn't conform is ignored, or at best, downplayed. Lots of it is over the top though, I think the best way is finding a path down the middle. Anyway, hard luck again. I've seen the rest of the entries and yours held up to any of them.

*This is an assumption
