I've been painting a bunch of elves this week for the business. Nothing too spectacular but satisfying non the less.

I concur with garmenhord and the base just adds to the piece.

All great, but the mirkwood elf is the standout. I'm sitting here looking at a box of them ready to go, but holding off until the paint comp. Base is excellent, what did you use?

I added some cork for height then covered it in modelling paste to smooth out the edges. This was then painted a suitably earthy colour.

The flock is all dried stuff from the garden; soil, roots and bits of leaves.

I would be extremely happy if I could paint "not so spectacular"...

I really like the elves, but as the others said the mirkwood elf stands out! 8) Beautiful colour choice and transitions and he has more contrast than the others. Keep it up!

Mirkwood rangers are finished. I'll put up individual photos on my blog over the weekend.

Fantastic work on these :yay:

Which greens and browns had you used in the rangers?
You coment one time that you use Vallejo paints, no?

I think these tones are more in the range of Vallejo Model Color than the GW range.

I switched to mostly p3 paints a few years back

The paints I used were:

Thornwood green (P3)
Traitor green (P3)
Sanguine base (P3)
Menoth white highlight (P3)
Umbral umber (P3)
Bootstrap leather (P3)
Bloodstone (P3)
Khardic flesh (P3)
Coal black (P3)
Thrall flesh (P3)
Runefang streel (Citadel)
Strong tone ink (Warpaints)

This is my paint swatch card to give you an idea of the colours

I have to agree - the Mirkwoods are outstanding but the others are great as well.
