Cool battle matt! Really want to see it painted. Is it going to be grass land of more rock like?

How did you make those elven shields? I would like to make some my self but don't have a methode of molding them with green stuff. good idead to use an old dvd. smooth surface

I really love your catapult! As I have some old sprues as well I'm thinking about doing the same if you don't mind? Are those rohan shield in the wheels?
How did you make the plastic look like wood? Did you use a carving knife?

@ Lorindol the shields were from a mould I made by pressing a metal shield into some water covered greenstuff, the catapult wheels are the centre pieces of the newer sprues (and of course I don't mind, if i did I wouldn't have a wip page :) ) rohan shield could work but they might be a bit thin.
I made the plastic look like wood by scoring it with an old serrated knife blade, which takes very thin shaving off at a time

Back to the mat; I do intend to paint it soon, as soon I make a 4 by 6 table for it.
The aim is to have a board I can just roll up, It will be harad based board, lots of dried up oases and dead trees and a butt-ton of sand to boot
in-fact I have a sample I painted up bellow:

You have 3 Mumaks ? Nice.
The mat is a great piece of terrain and I watch with interest on how it will look when finished.

So It has been a while but here goes a whopper of pics to show some progress on my latest project, Beorn man and Bear forms, from scratch as I never liked the Games Workshop versions, Pics are in Chronological order to help see progress. The man form is now finished painting.

Well, only three mumakil to compare on the mat, I guess it still looks good. :-D
As for beorn, you have some good basic form work there. I think you could benefit from looking over may of the sculpting articles that UKFreddybear placed links to on the sculpting thread he made. It will help, I know it is helping me a lot.

A great effort. Some tips you might find useful:
With fur, start near the bottom of the mini, dragging wavey lines downwards maybe 1-2mm working across the mini. Then repeat this process slightly above the first area, dragging lines down to overlap the first layer.

Teeth on minis as big as this look much better when added individually rather than pushed into a strip of putty. For individual teeth you need to make cone shapes by applying more pressure to one end of a thin sausage of putty than the other when rolling it.

Thanks for the tips Dave, I usually make teeth individually, but for some inexplicable reason was compelled to try something different with this model.

I'am starting the painting now.

So it has been too long since my last update...
here goes, what will imo be my biggest sculpting challenge and full stop project ever undertaken, dwarfing the mumak I sculpted a few years back by a long shot.
Smaug!!!!!!!!!!!!
Image
the armature was quite a bit of fun to make and it was tricky finding suitable things to use
Image
Image
by this stage I had already burned through 3 pack of milliput
(notice bilbo for size)

Image

base template made on paint and printed out, as per the gw website, 23.1 long and 13.3 wide (CM)
Image
Image
some more millput added
Image

base now finished and breast amplified
Image

and finally the start of the jaw/head structure
Image
At this point I have already got through 6 packs of milliput and there is still plenty to do before the beast can be unleashed

I've been thinking about making the wings magnetised for ease of transport, and I have a fairly good idea of how to proceed with the skin/scales

This is quite and undertaking but he's already coming together nicely I'd say. Looking forward to see how you make him look when the detailing begins.
