Thank you. Next up is Gimli. Nothing much is done on this one apart from the main tunic. I threw in a bit of blue into the shading for contrast with the red. Quite pleased with how it's turning out.

Nice idea for his base. This is my favorite Gimli pose, and your painting does it justice; I love the color of his cloak!

Another masterpiece in the making - this could easily be mistaken for a larger scale mini as it was a decent sculpt and the painting so far is excellent.

Yeah I think it's the best sculpt of Gimli. I decided a while ago I was only going to paint 1 of the 3 I have. They're different poses but for all intents and purposes, the same model, not a whole lot of variation. Elven cloak and 2 handed axe. This one had the best proportions, the others I feel were too blocky. (Amon Hen and Heroes of the West - up for trade if anyone's interested)

Bit of an update on Gandalf. The main robes were highlighted with 3 layers, might give the edges another go. Went over the hair again with pure white, as well as most of Shadowfax (though the daylight makes them look extreme, they're more subtle in the flesh). Touched up the face with some more details, and shaded the rest of the cloth. dont want the mane to look too much like gandalfs hair, or the remaining clothes to look too much like the horse colourwise. any ideas appreciated.

A perfect Gandalf, the result is all the more impressive considering white isn't the easiest colour to paint - I would make the contrast between Shadowfax' eye area, and head a bit less sharp though.

Just a quick one today, under 3 hours. Might shade the cloak a bit more, it looks grainy in the photo, but looks ok in real life. Any ideas for the base? I want it consistent with the rest of my elves, slightly forsety and autumnal, but it'd be nice if I could give it a subtle nautical nod.

This is some of the better painting I've seen from you, it looks smooth and very nice light to dark transition. The blending is good.
The cloak could do with some shading. I would also look to the mid tones, the robes at the front seem a little dark then light with no mid shades. That would help create a better blend and smoother flow between the shades.

Great stuff Gene. My only advice is to revisit Shadowfax and try to blend the highlights more. They're looking a little stark right now.

Beautiful mate- i love the way you've made Cirdan look as old as he should look! Great work in this thread.

Back after a hectic few weeks. Decided I'd try some new techniques, and use this months competition as an incentive to get back into things. Big thanks to Minimal Monkey Saddle for some sound advice and resources. What I tried to do this time is go from light to dark using shades, rather than highlight up. Seems to have curbed the contrast. Might still tidy up a few details, but happy with the overall effect.

Well well well, it's been a little while. I have been up to my eyes lately, and to be honest, gone off painting. However someone clever got me this for my birthday, and I'm also moving into a much bigger house on my own, so no excuses now. Can't wait to get stuck in. I figure if I post this I'll have to get a move on. Hope everyone has been well!
