Can't wait to see some colour on him! What a great model. I'm tempted to do something big from forge world myself, but at the moment the backlog of "must have" GW metal is taking priority.

Excited to see what you do with him. Lots of WIP pics please!!!

The egg on the base could easily be covered up with cork and talus masquerading as rocks.
Or you could make an omlette :)

Lovely Dragon, what colour scheme are you going to do?

Waiting for the Fire Dragon to go back into production.

forgeworld is known for having almost no flay on the casting moulds, unlike gw resin, you are actually paying for quality
as my recomendation, I would challenge you guys buying any forgeworld 40k or fantasy and see why in my oponion forgeworld should had the casts rather than gw..

nice work, i quite like the version with no paint on it a bit more. Not that it wasn't well painted up, far from that. It was done very well! But it gives some more attention to the sculpt itself like this.

Makes Durin's bane (not the member, the model) look comparatively cuddly.

Any tips on how you get the form (ie muscles and general proportions) right? That's something I always find really hard in sculpting and drawing....

Its no secret. Plenty of reference anatomy charts on the internet. Just keep them handy to check you have it about right.

Brilliant to see the different pictures as the Beast comes together, the curve of the wip is just amazing. Thanks

The bigger 'crest' on the head and some of the other details put me in mind of HR Giger's work that became the Alien queen in 'Aliens'. That is an astonishing piece, made all the more remarkable when seen alongside the standard balrog. Gothmog killed two Noldor high kings (Fëanor and Fingon) and was the field commander of Morgoth's armies in battle. This sculpt radiates the savagery and malice of an evil demigod.
In the end, Ecthelion of Gondolin put an end to Gothmog's career.

I know what you mean, it's much easier to appreciate the quality of the sculpt this way - and there is plenty of quality to admire here.
Also loving the WIP giant anteater in the first pic.

Great-looking Balrog! What's the elf model you've put by him for scale purposes?

That's my Ecthelion. Originally an elf from Miniatures Del Castillo that I tweaked by adding LotR wargear

He looks cool too, though I don't see him killing something that size easily.
