I just saw this pop up and thought it would be interesting to know. What was everyones first set of models? What did they do or get after that? And what do they do now in terms of models?

My first models were Warriors of the Last Alliance too. I've come to find that many LoTR SBG beginners go for these models, something just draws them to it.

I'd bet that many people though have a wide range of different first models, it just depends what catches their eyes.

My first models were Gil-galad and the Fellowship of the Ring starter kit with Last alliance and Goblins.
I now collect a bit of everything but I "play as" Dwarves, Moria, and Harad

I began with a box of 24 Ghaladrim Warriors and 20 Easterlings. I play now with Dwarves, Elves(Lorien Rivendell and Mirkwood), Orcs, Rohan and Uruk-hai (biggest army over 3k points :D)

I got the Mines of Moria starter set for Christmas in 2006. Soon afterwards I got the Last Alliance and Uruk-hai box sets. Interestingly, I don't often play any of those armies now.

I think it was a Minis Tirith and Mordor starter set. Im pretty sure after Return of the King I finally broke and started with the hobby. I know I got riders of rohan and uruk hai soon too. It was either when ROTK came out or between the two but I wanna say I spent a lot on the main forces in those movies.

Now, Im collecting an army for Isengard, Harad and Umbar, and Easterling mix with them too, Wood elves (probably x 2 both wood elves and galadhrim) and maybe some other good army.

I dont like dwarves, but men are so weak too.....IDK.......

The very first Starter Box, which I think was Goblins vs Last Alliance ... God I've been doing this for a long time! I got most of the original sets, and my dad and I painted them up. Then I started painting them up on my own (his, unsurprisingly, looked a lot better than mine). This addiction has continued to this day, although it's harder to do at Uni. Bought a box up with me to paint in September, and when I realised I hadn't touched them in the three months, took them back down when I returned for Christmas ... I only really have time for them during Christmas/Easter/Summer at the moment, which makes them sad.

That's hobby neglect! I'll have no choice but to confiscate the models

It's not neglect, it's just ... okay, it's neglect, but don't tell anyone!

My 1st models were the Mordor Orc Starter Set closely followed by a Mordor Troll, Gothmog mtd, Witch-king ft, Gorbag & 15 Moria Goblins. Then Saruman strangely enough

Most of the Orcs and Goblins have been forgotten & Gothmog was replaced, Saruman sold. Gorbag, Troll and W-K were repainted and are still in use. Collect everything Evil except the pathetic Isengarders, plus Mirkwood Elves.

My first models was the ROTK starter kit which I went halves with my brother on. I think I got the TTT set after that and it's expanded from there!

Currently I'm on a mission to collect some of all the models. My Lotr end of the collection should hopefully be finished by the end of this year, provided planned finances for the purchase materialises!! Then I have to start collecting the rest of the Hobbit models!!

Basically I don't technically play specific armies. The way me and my mates do it is, we generally play 2v2 and we roll 2D6. The two highest are the good side, the lowest are evil and we then pick our armies from my collection to the agreed points value. It does lead, periodically, to a long pre game set up!! Particularly when certain people pick their army, start setting them up, realise that they've gone over their allocated total and instead of losing a model or two to rectify it, they decide to pick an entirely different army and start from scratch again!! Yes, that actually happened... and not just once!!
The joys of having too much choice.

Still on the other side, we've had some absolutely epic battles so its totally worth it!!
