This is a display case-worthy model. I love the smooth highlighting/lowlighting and the base is such an effective use of scenery without overpowering the model itself. Really great work.

Wonderfully painted. The embroidery looks great and the twig "tree" is a nice touch as well.

ROGNARRRRRR! Great looking Arwen! Just great man. The sading is top shelf and the freehand is excellent. Love the base work too, really fitting.

The Rohhirrim conversion is great. You really did well on it. Cant wait to see more!

Thank you all for these lovely comments! They are more than motivating and some almost overwhelming! ^^ I am really glad that I got so much positive feedback on Arwen.

The sad part of the news though is, that I will be back on a (small but 'compulsory') break. Unfortunately the more important "work in progress" at the moment is my thesis, which I have to get finished within the next weeks... That won't allow no time for the hobby at all but I am pretty sure, that I will be back with new projects and even more motivation after that step is done! ;)

You are right, get the important stuff done first and then you can play. Good luck with your thesis and hurry back.

Best of luck on the thesis! Whenever all the research starts to make your eyes bleed, take a break and paint for a spell. Have to stay sane somehow!

Today I have a different kind of update for this thread :)

I bought these two nice fellas from ebay, for quite a nice price, because their hands were broken off and missing.. It's almost a bit scary how expensive these lovely statues are if you want to buy them in good condition.
Anyways, I grabbed some modelling clay and colours and gave them their hands back. Now they guard my Tolkien books ^^

You did a nice job sculpting the hands. I also bought them, just two weeks ago for 20euro. Really nice statues and they are standing beautiful between the statues of Minas Tirith and Gollem :)

They are really nice models, and a good job with painting and repairing. While seeing the picture with the books I regognized you are from Germany, too. Ever thought of the HdR Tabletop Forum?

I'm kinda back from working on my thesis, handed it in the other week .. So, what can you do, if you want to "do stuff" again, but don't have your materials at your place? Gathering ideas I guess would be a good start.
I've been thinking of another house for my Rohirrim, maybe something fortress-like..

As much as I liked this idea here, that I found years ago on tabletop-hdr.de, it looked too.. well.. Bree-ish for my taste. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the medieval look of those buildings and Deleriands fortress is a true masterpiece! But I wanted to keep some kind of "authentic norse" style for my buildings.

Image

So I went on with my reseach and found this longhouse from Trelleborg:

Image

It might not be very fortress-like but could serve as a great "proxy" for Meduseld I guess.

Finally I stumbled upon this piece of gold here, which indeed is an Edoras building:

Image

And although it might not be a real fortress, I love stonework-base it's build on and the included stables. All in all a fantastic building imho.
So I took my pencil and started to get the design onto paper, so that I hopefully could start working on this in the near future.

Image

I intend to place the house on a kind of rocky slope, thats why there is a blank area at the stairs. The slope will rise to the back of the house, as you can see on the photograph.

If you have any more ideas, comments or critique I'd appreciate to hear it from you. As always! :)

Nice find - most of the Rohan constructions I have seen are on the flat so having one on a slope automatically makes it that bit special.
I think the 'people' door in the photo has a rounded top - it is hard to see as the image is not good quality.

The house looks great and this will be a lovely project to work on. Will he roof be removable for gaming purposes or will this be more of a diorama ?
If it's a fortress then you need to consider some fortifications. I'm thinking of a palisade fence with a couple of watchtowers and a gate.

Thanks for the hint Dorth! You're right it looks like a door with rounded top.

@Gandlaf: I think I will go for a non-removable roof, since the house is more for scenic purposes. Like you I am more of a hobbyist :)
Concerning the fortifications I had the same thoughts like you. I probably will go for a palisade fence in combination with an earth wall. Maybe like this:

Image

As for the watchtower/gatehouse: I already have one, that could be integrated with some minor fixes I think:

That is kind of what I was thinking. The earth and wood will be very fitting. I like your watchtower and could fit in with the fence quite easily.
You could soon have this as part of the diorama challenge, it would make a great entry.

So, here are some first steps for the hall I plan to build. I've cut out the front and back today, so there's still way to go. Planks will be glued over the grey parts.
