Am I right in saying you have used powder pigments for the camouflage stripes or are they spray gunned on ?
I haven't heard of the pledge way of varnishing before, do you use that on your LOTR figures ?

I air brush the camouflage on, green and a red/brown, the pigments are dissolved in Windsor and Newton oil paint thinners. Also off the shelf oil washes.
I am experimenting with the Pledge Klear at the moment on the Great Beast of Gorgoth, pics soon.

The scale difference is not noticeable IMO. What do you think?

Thanks for the pictures- very useful. Yes, my pal has a couple of WG hanomags, and I do think they are too small. The Taimya one is much better. As I'm playing brit in NW Europe I'll most likely go Jerry in North Africa, if we end up changing theatres.

I'm also tempted by Gurkhas and Japanese. Oh so much to want, and so little time!

We're currently meeting up to play about every month as well. No interest down my local gaming club, "The Cross Gaming Club" in London. In fact, as I'm not interested in War Machine, and have given up Infinity, there's pretty much no reason to go there any more :(.

Our gaming club is very 40K, about half the people attend play it. Luckily there are 5 to 6 who play WOTR, SBG, Bolt Action and Warmachine. I think another year or 2 and Bolt Action will be more popular. Warlord this year are launching 2 new books, 1 a campaign book covering from D Day to taking Berlin the other a new Rule Book just for large Tank Battles! Looking forward to them both.

I look at that and all I can think of is Kelly's Heroes.

I hope Warlord give us plenty of the variants to play with - and some more of the Sdkfz 251 variants would be most welcome too.
Now hurry up and finish it and don't give me any of the negative waves :)

Centaur, and yep, I used an airbrush. First time painting vehicles, so I'm pretty happy with the results. I'm now about to experiment with using vinegar as a cheap alternative to decal softener! Eeep!

Use the Micro Set stuff, it's really cheap and works brilliantly

Frying tonight?
I just ordered some of the PSC 15mm Churchills for Flames of War (also contemplating the Battlegroup rules as an alternative paradigm).

I play the Battlegroup series, especially Overlord, and have a Croc ready to roll when I arrange the next battle. The rules are very unlike Flames of War, ie. not a GW clone. Some aspects are debatable but overall it's very satisfying and played by most of my club.

Back to the 28mm goodies - nice models indeed. I started with 20mm many moons ago so that's why I'm sticking to that scale, but for skirmishes these look very tasty. I have to say, however, that (apart from Flail tanks) the Crocodile is probably the armoured vehicle least likely to have the commander poking his head out of the hatch! Button up and stay that way!

Nice on Harfoot! I had a game yesterday actually, and pulled out the airborne jeep for some zoom zoom fun. Twin Pintle Vickers MMG's for 52 points just seems abusive though!

Next on the shopping list is an M5 halftrack and a Humber Armoured Car. Having said that, I really should paint up another 10 infantry. Bleugh! Armour is so much more fun to paint!

I know, couldn't resist putting him in!

Yes, have a stack of Germans to paint for month now, but these tanks and half tracks keep jumping the queue!!!!!

Great use of pigments on the tank, it has given it a very realistic feel. I wish I had known stuff like this when I was a youth, all those kits I wasted...

This is my latest finished BA model, Michael Wittmanns Tiger I. He has an amazing story which can be read here -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Wittmann

Its a Warlord resin kit with metal parts.

Beautiful work! Did you find the… ugh, can't remember the name of it= the corrugated textured stuff they slapped on the tank to baffle shaped charges… did it cause you painting problems?

Zimmerit, it was a non-magnetic paste put on to stop explosives sticking. The model came cast with it on already, easy to paint with an airbrush, would not like to do it by had.

The quality of Warlord models is really impressive, every week they bring a new one out!

The only fully functional Tiger 1 at present is in the Bovington Tank Museum (one of the places on my list to visit) - Tiger 131 was captured after being abandoned in Tunisia. They had to replace the original engine with one from a Kingtiger but other than that, she goes - not bad for something turning 71 this year!

As Oddball says in 'Kelly's Heroes', 'It's a beautiful tank!'

They have an open day every year with it running. Another good day out is Duxford, part of the Imperial War Musium and mainly aeroplanes, but the last huge hanger is full of tanks, half Tracks, you name it. They have the replica Tiger tank from the Saving Private Ryan film. Even Montgomerys mobile caravan HQ.
