Great paintwork, especially on the Eagle :yay: I think your photography needs improving though :)

Good models?! YOU?! Gothmog, please tell me you're going to turn them into spectres, for god sake :P . Noo, just kidding. Your painting's looking very good, getting better each time I look at the WIP. When're we going to see a SOFAI force?

That is a crazy amount of painting.
Now, photographs. I bang on a lot about this but seriously, if you want to show the minis at their best, you need to do a little bit of preparation to get good photographs, regardless of whether you are using a cameraphone, a compact, a bridge camera or an all-sing-all-dancing SLR.
Find out the minimum focussing distance - there are several of your recent images that are clearly inside the minimum focussing range of the device you are using - check the manual or test this out to determine how close you can get before the mini blurs out.
Second - no-one recommends holding a camera in one hand and the mini in the other, as now you have both the subject and the capture device moving (your pulse and respiration, muscle twitches and so on) so again, the image will not be as good. Put the mini on a solid surface and either mount the camera on something like a tripod or mini tripod or use some other means to steady it like a beanbag or similar draped over a solid box or stack of books.
Lighting - there is an article on making a lightbox from a plastic milk carton - ideal for minis up to maybe Treebeard size at most but not enough for Mumakil. If weather is good and you have somewhere well lit and not windy,(indoors or outdoors) use that instead. You can use white paper as a reflector to fill in shadows if they are too deep. You can always have a go at creating a larger lightbox maybe using the greaseproof paper employed by cooks.
Back to the minis - great work, and we want to see it at its best!

Erm hi guys. Just noticed you replied months ago.

@Dorth, tripod is on my wish list of things to buy, lighting is all natural. I'll try to sort out tripod before updating this at all.

@mastermanje if your still here, ASOIAF would I get told off for turning Haradrim into Dornishmen in the future?

Okay, and sorry.

Still here, no problem :D . Dornishmen as haradrim would be a very nice project, as the serpent guards'd make excellent dornish spearmen, and the whole dornish army always seemed lightly armored to me. Hasharins for the sand snakes maybe? Maybe you could use the golden king for Doran? I'm probably going to do some stormland houses(Grandison, Swann, Selmy, Connington, Dondarrion) or the southern reach powerhouses(Florent and Hightower) myself.

The Golden King would be great for Doran, the sand Snakes would be harder to do.

The Stormlands would've been awesome with Stannis. Interested in seeing your take on the Selmys, Conningtons etc The Reach seems difficult though, and they are the mortal enemies of the Dornish.

Well, here are the next models on my "painting table" (bed):

Image

In case you can't see it all,

Azog ft & mtd
Yazneg ft & mtd
Narzûg ft & mtd (latter is a conversion)
The Three Trolls
1 Hunter Orc Captain (conversion)
24 Hunter Orcs
5 Hunter Orcs on Fell Wargs
12 Fell Wargs
4 Mirkwood Spiders (only 2 in the pic as the 2nd pair are presents and I took the pic before Xmas)
The Necromancer
The Spider Queen & 3 Swarms
4 Giant Spiders
Ashrak the Spiderkin
24 Moria Goblins
4 Moria Goblin Prowlers
4 Gundabad Blackshields
1 Shade
1 Cave Troll (the OOP metal one, off ebay and needed repairing)

I've already started assembling several of these since taking that pic and I'll take a pic of the 2 conversions and the repaired troll as soon as I get enough daylight.

And now a moment's silence to remember poor Fimbul who gave his life for his children and his God (Sauron) and give our sympathies to poor Fimbulla who must now raise 4 Orclings by herself.

Hmm, doesn't take long to get onto the second page does it?

I decide what to paint next based on what I think I will "use" the soonest, I often paint a few older models I have when I get new models that go with them too, like I did here with the Spiders and such.

I know my photography is generally bad but I had about 10 minutes of daylight so I had to do it as quickly as possible, I will use only flat surfaces from now on though.

A couple of group shots of where I was up to this morning, still at the assembling stage I'm afraid.

A sort of close up of my converted Hunter Orc Captain:

Mounted Narzûg from the front (the green stuff looks a lot neater in real life):

And the back:

This is how much work I had to do to fix up the Cave Troll, you can see both the hammer and chain were damaged. That's what happens when you buy it off ebay I suppose:

And these are the Spider conversions I did:

Oh, I do wish photobucket wasn't so full of those horrible, virusy ads, took my 45 mins just to do this one post.

What's ad blocker? It sounds good.
