Thanks. I use the figures most often as NPC in role playing games. My non Middle earth project is about complete so I can plan a Prancing Pony.

I have been working on cast furniture

This is Mike's Warlock Cottage. I am going to make the next one so the second floor will come off.

The New Bones villagers with Heritage and a LOTR figure for scale. I am going to trade the Inn to Mike. The plan here http://www.hirstarts.com/ I want to make the next one as building rather than follow a dungon lay out.

I like the 'civilians' - it adds character and they look like good, clean sculpts. I am truly amazed by the amount of work you manage to get done. Puts me to shame really :(

I work for about 1/2 hour in the morning then may be 1/2 hour in the afternoon with a few minutes in the evening. Before long it seems like I have a lot done. There is nothing amazing I just got used to managing my time all those years I had to work three jobs.

Over the weekend I had a meetup with some of my internet friends from the Hirst Arts Group. It was the first time I had met Dave and Terry. We had a mold making session in TreeFort Games work room.

Image

Mike ,Terry, Dave, and Eva discuss pink pancakes with Uncle Charlie.

Image

Test fitting the mold box at home. I used plexiglass for the base like Terry suggested. I put the box together with wood screws. It was not necessary because the Mold Max is thicker than some of the products I have used in the past.

Image

Dave demonstrating Terry's method of reducing trapped air. You can see the wood screw in the mold box.

Image

Dave's mold box was made by hot glueing the pine walls to the plexiglass.
I used duct tape on a quick box I made because I was concerned that the chemical reaction would generate enough heat to effect the hot glue. I was over cautious. The Mold Max in some ways is more forgiving than some products. It is necessary to paint the Mold Max on to the fine details to prevent trapped air ruining details. The components also have to be carefully weighed. I learned a lot working with The Group.

I will soon begin casting columns for the Moria Halls.

The lengths you go to are impressive but it's those efforts which create the great work you produce. Thanks for sharing your tips with us.

You are welcome. But there does not seem to be much interest.

16 of 32 Moria Column bases.
There are a few more details of interest. You can see the beginning of a custom mold for Gondor. I have to cast a few more parts to finish the rest of the custom molds for Moria.

The Hirst blocks is a line I will go down when I build Helms Deep so I find all this moulding your doing as fascinating. It may be drawn out making all the pieces but that intrigues me more.
What's the story with the wolves in the far corner ?

They are D&D figures. I use them for White Wargs in some of the Shire scenarios. I am redoing bases with magnets and new flock.

Again, the technical expertise and dedication to the pursuit of excellence are inspiring. It does look a lot like bubble gum. I really like the pillar bases - very neatly done.

I wish I had thought of casting the Moria pillars instead of creating nine individually from blue foam and foamcore. Yours look great! What Gondorian parts are you planning to include in the new mold? I'm also wondering whether I should make a mold for the Minas Tirith crenellations, or whether I could cut them out of Depron with a hobby knife. The way the tiling goes, it might be better to go the Depron way as I did with my little test model a few months ago.

I was working on crenelations. I do not know what might be best. I am going to try Tom from Tx method with foam
http://www.hotwirefoamfactory.com/custo ... g_tomy.htm

I am going to try the cast parts on a few small wall sections first. The back ground wall in the dungeon photo is a Deeping wall prototype.

Image

I am going to see if making a curved deeping wall is worth the trouble before I decide to use Tom's method on something bigger.

I should be able to make 12 per cast.
