Hey!
Haven't had the time to finish all 8 models :(
Image
Update on the gold armour warriors. As you can see, not much has changed. Each base colour has been applied, I expect these to be finished soon.

Image
Yesss, I went to the store and got some metallic paints, finally!
These are my first swords, I think they turned out fine.
I fixed their skin colour by applying a brownish wash. Just compare these pictures with the ones I posted earlier, you'll see a big difference.

Image
Gave him an armour upgrade :D
Way better than the fortress grey drybrushing I did at first hand.
(Does anyone else think this picture looks like a painting Oo?)

Image
Shaded and highlighted :)

Image
Image
Closer look on skin colour and other details.

I'm quite happy so far. I still have to paint their shields. Does anyone know how to remove the paint from their shields? I painted them 6 years ago and they look [word deleted] imo, so I'll need to clean them first, any tips?
I think I'll start painting a Rohan hero once I've finished my last four warriors. Maybe it's best to start with Hama? So I don't mess up the far more important Eomer :D
Until next time!

To remove paint, just throw them in some dettol soap , u can get that at a pharmacy. Then just scrub of the paint. Leave it in about a day or 2. The longer it goes in , the faster it gets off.

Nice work! I like the shading on the cloaks.

Nice :yay: looking realy neat so far. I dont think you can strip plastic but im sure you can just spray an undercoat again over the top.

Thanks guys!
I'll try to strip them with dettol. After a quick search on the interwebz I discovered dettol should do the trick.
@ John Wayne: Thanks, your compliments count for two, your Rohan minis are awesome!

Well, here's another update.
Still working on Rohan, maybe it's too much of the same stuff, but imo you can see my progress without skipping too many stages.
Still haven't cleaned the shields, so couldn't repaint them yet.
Image
Image
These are the three stages I'm in now.
Left: still needs details, highlighting etc.
Middle: done, first stage of basing
Right: Finished
Disregard the goblins, they are not my work :p

Image
A finished model. Not much to say really. Scorched brown wash on the gravel, snakebite leather drybrushes followed by bleached bone drybrushes.

Image
Image
Golden armour and a good look on some details.

In the next update, these 24 warriors will be completely finished and I'll move on to some riders or perhaps a hero.
Thanks for the comments so far!

Turns out I lied a bit about my updates.
Here's a mini update before I post my complete set of 24 warriors.

Image

Was fooling around with gold paint around the edges of his cloth and I then realised he would stand out to much in my army. A friend suggested to convert him into a captain or banner bearer.
This is the first step towards converting him into a banner bearer.
It's my first freehand ever, I think it's not too bad.
I'm going to give him a banner by cutting away the knob for the shield and drilling a hole into his hand.

Loving the gold trim on those red garments. The free hand looks very good too. :yay:

Amazing freehand painting! I also like how their faces look. They are very realistic. Yet, I don't like their bases because the layer of sand is too thick.

Hmm, I've been thinking about that too. The stones are quite big in comparison with the figures. Maybe I should buy some sand as well.

So, I've finally managed to upload some pics again.
All 24 warriors of Rohan are based now, but I still have to strip the shields.
The shields you see in the pics are painted 6 years ago and I'm not too happy with them.

Image
Image
All 24 warriors.
The second pic makes my army look a bit bigger ;D

Image
I tried to make some fancy shin guards for all my spearmen(what's the proper term?).
I gave them leadbelcher shin guards and tried some gold freehand on them.
It didn't turn out the way I wanted, so I gave them a brown wash to hide my failure. I think they turned out ok now :)

Image
Difference between my bases.
The left one is a mix of 3 types of sand/gravel. The right one was my first attempt at basing, done with only one type of gravel.
I personally think the left one is quite nice.

I still have some problems with static grass though.
Half of what I apply just stays flat on the base.
I held the models upside down and tapped on the bottom, I even tried blowing but that didn't seem to help. Maybe I used too much glue? Any tips?

Thanks for the kind and useful comments/remarks so far! ^^

Grieves I believe 8)

I'd recommend watering down your glue a bit. Also, are you pushing it on or sprinkling it on? I'd say sprinkling is better if you want it all to stand up.

Anyhow, I really like your basing scheme 8) Great looking texture on the earth and the mix of static grass and flock looks excellent. :yay:

A good standard of painting too

Ah, thanks Sid!

Yes, I read you had to gently push it on. Will certainly try sprinkling next time!

I agree that the new base looks much better. Your static grass looks fine to me. I always press the grass into my glue, and I also use straight blue, no watering down. If you just sprinkle it on it will be no where near as 'full' as if you push it in. 8)

I'm not sure if you can get it any more upright without a static grass applicator. If you really want it to stand up, consider grass clumps, they tend to be more upright.

Maybe you're right, maybe I just need taller grass.
Regarding the static grass, some bases are better than others.
But maybe I expect too much from these small fellas ;D

For static grass sprinkle it on and gentle blow away the excess. That's all you need to do. You should never need to physically touch it.

I've been making a few new army lists which include WoMT.
The lists include the spearmen, but I'm out of glue so I couldn't assemble them yet. Started painting some other WoMT.
I also made my first attempt at making a scenery piece, still have to paint it and add foliage though.

Image
First time painting such 'large' pieces of armour.
Still have to do straps, garments etc etc.

Image
Some archers. Only the armour is finished (except for tiny silver details).

Image
Still need to add some details to their face as well.

Image
Tree made out of a wine cork and grape stem. Based on polystyrene and cardboard. Made some roots and rubble out of cork as well.

When this batch of WoMT is finished I'll be moving on to some Rohan heroes and Faramir.
Still have to complete my banner bearer conversion as well so I know what to do in the next couple of weeks ^^
