First of all, I would like to say hi to all users. I've been watching one ring for some time, and finally decided to join. I mostly do conversions, so watching amazing figures many of you have shown, I want to show you my humble sculptures. Just today, couple of hours ago, I finished my Dwalin from Battle of Azanulbizar. He looked awesome with his mohawk, so I decided to make myself this fierce warrior. The results and some other sculptures you can view at this site:
http://monsieurgriffin.deviantart.com/gallery/39467462

Feel free to share your thoughts about my figures

ps. sorry for my english

Thank you all for your kind words :)
Actually, I don't remember the upcoming pose for Dwalin, so it's a kind of coincidence.
Seeing The Hobbit left me picking up my jaw from the floor, there are so many interesting characters to sculpt and ideas and designs to inspire from.

I'll post some pictures straight to this topic in a moment.

It stoled our idea, precious! The Easterling troll was ourses! How could it do that to us?! (I WILL get pictures of mine up some day, lol...)

Some fantastic work and you can really see where you're coming at each model from. I especially like the soldiers from your own faction - fit in very well with LotR: close to Rohan and maybe men of Dale, whilst having a distinct flavour of their own. very nice.

Don't worry, the troll isn't truly Easterling one, just an idea of an oriental look :)
soldiers are actually some old sculptures, made with a cheap substitute of green stuff available in my country(and it's very crappy compared to green stuff), so I'm not very happy about how they came out.
To be honest, only dwalin and gollum are made of gs, but recently it's only gs and procreate that I'll be using, so I hope my future sculpts will look better

The detail on the chieftain's head and cloak is astounding!

Amazing work. :) I'd say instead of making alot of sculpts, try perfecting the proportions some more, that's the only 'critique' I can come up with if any. ;)

The sculpting skills seem to be getting better. I know very little about it (other than I am rubbish at it) but there are a few guys hereabouts that are really good sculptors. Keep up the good work!

You are really growing in this, some of the older ones have strange proportions and the like, but the king and Dwalin are flawless.

Many thanks

I started sculpting, well, I suppose, about two years ago, but I wasn't satisfied with the results. First I was making skeletons for my figures with polymer clay, then, after some searching, I started making wire armatures, and finally bought some greenstuff. Using it really made everything easier, but there are many projects before me and with each I hope to get better, so I can put my figures next to GW ones and feel no shame.

I'm thinking about buying some Pro Create. Could someone tell me is it worth buying?

This time a little bit of converted mordor orcs, mostly head and weapon swaps, sculpting hands and fur or bits of different armour

here added only axe head
Image

in this one i made head, very ugly (but it's an orc after all :)), two handed axe, added missing hands, and some fur on shoulders
Image

I had a lot of work with this one: added head, arms from some poor goblin, bow from warg riders box, made quiver and leather armour around neck
Image

here, converted from grishnakh, added beard, bits of chainmail, scale armour on the shoulder, made new shield and armed with metal captain's pick, bended so it looks different
Image
Image

again, simple one, this orc was missing a hand and weapon, so he got hand from uruk, and new sword

Absolutely. I'd take it over green stuff any day of the week.

To be a good sculptor you need the right tools ( a blade, a point, a spooned spatula and rubber clay shapers for sure). A proper sculpting putty and understanding of its properties. You will also need a correctly proportioned armature to build on. You need an eye for details. You need to research techniques and your subject matter. And you need patience.

To become a great sculptor you just need about 5000 hours of experience :)

You obviously have a bit of a knack for this sculpting lark, and can only get better with time and experience. Just as we all do. I hope to see you taking part in the bi-monthly sculpting challenge here. 8)

Dave, many thanks for your advices. You're a great sculptor and I really admire your skills. I'll definitely buy some Pro Create and give it a try. I also need to buy some additional tools (and believe me, I have a lot of them). Then, I'll get myself a nice project and sculpt it.
