Could someone explain how the bow limit rule works? I think me and my friend Doc Death have been playing it wrong, both of us. We have been counting up all our models, lets say we have 50 models each on the table, so we played it that we could have 17 models able to shoot.

I take it that we are wrong in this? How should it be played? I play the Fallen Realms and my friend plays from the Kingdoms of Men.

If I understand it correctly, it works as follows:

You can have one third of your warriors from each faction in your army armed with bows. For example, if you have 12 dwarf warriors you can have four with bows. If you add 12 Gondor allies you can have 4 Gondor troops with bows and 4 dwarves with bows, but not for example 8 dwarves with bows.

Also, heroes aren't counted when calculating bow limit, only warriors. So just counting the number of models in the army wouldn't quite cut it.

(As your friend plays Fallen Realms though, note that the Haradrim bow limit is slightly different, as indicated in the Sourcebook).

Hope this helps!

I don't have my fallen Realms book to hand, but lets say I play Easterling warriors and then some Arbalasters, can all 12 have the cross bows?

I'm afraid not. Without getting too specific in regards to the rules in the book, it allows forces (or allied contingents) consisting only certain warriors from the Harad list to have more bows than the usual one third allowance. It's not 100% of the warriors allowed to have them though, I can say that much.

... That post turned out not just a little bit confusing :? I guess the easiest thing to do is just to check the rule in your sourcebook whenever you find the opportunity. It's on p. 26.

Yeah I understand now, just never played that in our games, just thought it was 33% of your whole army. But it's 33% of each faction? So for my Fallen Realm army list it's 33% harad / Umbar or 33% Eastern kingdoms ect....?

Add all the models not including heroes and divide by 3 thats how many you can have rounded up to the nearest number.

Exactly. If you play a mix of Harad/Umbar and Eastern Kingdoms you can have 33% of your warriors (note; heroes not counted) from the Harad/Umbar list armed with bows, and 33% of your warriors from the Eastern Kingdoms list armed with bows.

Edited, just for clarity: I'm quite sure me and John Wayne mean the same thing. Take all the warriors from a faction (e.g. Eastern Kingdoms) and divide by three, then round up.

Except the eastern Kingdoms is weird. The 33% bow limit applies to all Kataphrakts, and Khandish Warriors, Horsemen & Chariots. The Easterling Warriors (on foot) however have a 50% bow limit instead, count it as 2 factions when working out bow limit.

Oh, right. I forgot about that one. It can be found in Games Workshop's FAQ/Errata on their website.

So even if a hero has a bow, it doesnt count towards the bow limit? only standard infantry? would regular units be including banner carriers and monsters?

Yes. Only Heroes (including monster heroes) are the exception.
