Hey, I converted my Dwarfs today, inspired by yours. It's to dark to take any good pictures though.. and when I'll be home from school tomorrow it'll be dark too :(
So you might have to wait a little longer to see mine as I promised you ;)
I have to say, my Thorin seems a little.. weird.. oh well :P

I'm looking forward to seeing it and thanks for the kind words! :D

No need for credit or an apology, I'm flattered I had some part in inspiring someone else that's the biggest complement ever. I loooove the captain on top. I'd steal that idea, but then my warbands would be short a captain.
Reading through the notes in the Weta book, did you know the heads on his staff are of ex-wives?

You're a true gent my friend, cheers! I found someone selling the mini-captains dirt cheap on Ebay (£1.50 or so, he has some left!) so I bought one of them before I started work on this. I don't like the model but as you said, he's useful to have...

Haha! And that's some great trivia! My idea of the Goblin's son sitting on his shoulder might not be all too farfetched, then!

GothmogtheWerewolf wrote:
Oh I love the Great Goblin, the pointing finger, and decent use of the ridiculously undersix=zed Captain I don't like. If only you had ddone this before I assembled mine, I would have done the Captain too.

Really creative. The Dwarves too.. :yay:

Thanks for checking my stuff out, Goth, glad you liked them! And I think we can all agree that the captain is pretty ridiculous.

SMORG wrote:
Why is the captain so small, even the finecast one?

I read in December's WD that their idea was that smaller things are often more vicious (or something to that effect). A pretty poor decision anyhow!

goblin_king wrote:
Fantastic work! SMORG, the Finecast captain is normal sized... I think the little one is based on a concept design for the film.

Can't wait to see them painted, that Goblin King is great too! I have a spare one, so I'm thinking of designing my own version!

Yeah, the Finecast captain is normal size, I believe. I'm looking forward to getting him painted, too, so I better get a move on with my Dwarves. Andddd do it do it do it, I wanna see!

A quick update - painting is taking much longer than I thought! I guess I'm really trying to make these figs look good haha :P

Here's my progress on Kili:

I used Sklavenblight Dinge on his armour/tunic, I think it's a good match. And I'm quite proud of the face, even though he looks way too like a certain Dunedain/King of Gondor... But then in my view the whole model has a certain resemblance to the aforementioned ranger.

Very nice!! :yay: :yay:
The face is very very neatly done! 8)
Any chance you could crop your pics so we could see less white and more awesome painting? :) :-D 8)

Thanks for the suggestion, Sid!

I just experimented with my iPhone and it seems using the built-in cropper won't work when I upload to Photobucket, but if I crop my pics in a different program it works fine. What do you think?

You've picked out the details beautifully, especially the face. Good work, looking forward to the rest of the crew!

Thank you! I've really tried my best with these models, I hope I can do them justice, thanks for following!

Haha! Thanks a lot Lord Hurin, now hurry up and get them Gondorians done :P

I finished Kili today (at last, spent waaaay too much time on him):
Image
Image

Had quite a bit of fun adding weathering. He really looks like he should be captaining a contingent of Dwarven rangers!

Image

THORIN'S COMPANY: 4/15

And I started on Dwalin's skin today:

Image
Image

He's so battle-worn and scarred, he's a joy to paint! If anyone's interested in the skin tone I based with Bestial Brown, layered up with watered down Dwarf Flesh (fitting, huh?), washed with Ogryn Flesh, glazed with Bloodletter (great for giving Dwarves a ruddy tinge), then highlighted with Kislev Flesh. After that I added a few more Ogryn Flesh washes to make him look quite mottled and ruddy.

I liked working on this model so much that I even decided to add his tatoos, like the one across his scalp and the ones on his fingers (you can just make them out on the second pic). I'm really looking forward to seeing how he turns out!

Great paintwork! :) Wonder what Dwalin will look once he's finished, he's one of my favourite dwarfs!
I just uploaded my conversions as I promised you, hope you like 'em :P

Thanks Eaothen! This update's for you! :D

DWALIN:

Dwalin was quite a fun miniature to paint but his gauntlets were a huge pain! I like the colours, too, I more or less copied the image from Games Workshop's website as I found the movie Dwalin (and all the dwarves, really) to be rather dingy and monotonous!

THORIN'S COMPANY (5/15)

Next up: Bombur! Thanks for watching :)

The wind blowing in Thorin's hair perfectly matches his arm swinging with orcrist.

How strange that this thread has re-emerged after two years... Thanks for the comments guys. I actually sold the finished company with the majority of my figures back at the beginning of 2014... Thanks for the interest though!
