I saw 6 of the new Fell Wargs this week when I popped into the Metro Centre GW (Newcastle) earlier this week and OMG ARE THEY NICE MINIS. I might actually be tempted when I get round to buying another figure case.

Also if anyone would like an alternative or simply a greater variety of poses the 40K Fenrisian Wolves are very similiar. The prices are exactly the same, £18 for 6 or £15 for 5.

Yes, the above photo is of "Fenrisian Wolves.". They are a fairly close match and if they came in packs of six, I would pick up a box rather than duplicating the Fell Wargs box.

They come in packs of 5 not 6. (The Fell Wargs come in packs of 6). Prices are exactly the same: 5 for £15 or 6 for £18.

I'm not finding any pics on GWs site of the Feb releases (unless I'm looking past them...I'm browsing at work and need to keep the screen smalish in size). Are there any there or elsewhere on the web someone can link to? I'm mostly looking forward to seeing the full pose of the eagles and riderless wargs.

Eagles and Fell Wargs are the January release, credible rumours indicate that Radagast, Elrond and Rivendell Elves are due February.

I love the Fenrisian wolves, more than the new Fell Wargs to be honest. They're definitely the models I'll be getting when (if) I ever get around to upgrading my old wargs, who, considering they're painted and perfectly fine, are sadly quite low down my priority list!

That's how I feel, Dr Grant. I have 24 Warg Riders, and so I have no problem proxying them into the scenarios until I get around to collecting the Hunter Orcs. The Fenrisian Wolves are nice. It's just a shame they come in a box of 5.

Yeah, I have about 30 of the original Warg Riders (two Cirith Ungol sets and a couple box sets of Warg Riders), so for me my interest in the new Orcs on Fell Wargs is perhaps to represent captains of my standard set or just add some variety to the larger force. I was thinking of tracking down the Warg Ambush (?) box set to get the old metal riders but even they looked so much like the plastics they wouldn't pop out as much on the table. These guys look very different and very good.

What does but me a bit is GW's move away from the removable rider concept. I can play my current models as either Warg Riders or Wild Wargs, and if my rider is killed my Warg can continue. So my models can do double duty. But with the new design you must pay for each option. Yeah, they look really good, but I'd have rather had the removable rider.

Yeah the removable rider thing is definitely annoying. I've got 18 of the plastic ones painted up with cocktail sticks between the riders legs and holes in the wargs backs so they can just be popped off when the riders die or taken without riders for normal wargs.

I was actually really worried as I only finished painting my WR around August and thought I'd immediately be tempted to replace them but I have to say the Hunter Orc and Fell Warg models have left me most underwhelmed of all the new releases. I must be missing something but for me the Fell Wargs really aren't that much bette than the old ones :?

The final nail in the coffin was when I saw the movie (4th time tomorrow - still love it!) and the orcs really didn't look anything like the Hunter orc models and actually resembled the existing plastic Warg Riders pretty closely.

Oh well, one less thing to tempt me to buy and paint is hardly a problem!

I didn't even make much attention to the quality of GW's matching the Azog's hunters. I'll have to look at some stills for that.

Btw guys the fenrisian dire wolves are much bigger then the current plastic Wargs, they're about 25% bigger then a metal warg, and 30% bigger then the plastics. They'd make great Chieftains or a lead unit, but wont mesh well IMHO with the new Fell Wargs

Was just wondering that. Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the comparison picture RangerofTheNorth!

I prefer the look of the old wargs though and the fact that you have to buy riderless wargs isn't helping much.
It's much cheaper to buy the old wargs and dismount the orcs.
