I got a question about the Grey company but not the regular one.

I only play Lotr SBG games at my local GW store as I got none else to play with. I get the usual question about the bow limit. The thing I wonder is if you can field a dunedain/ranger of the north in the same warband as a hero?

If so I was planning on using this setup if you are allowed to use it this way.

Arathorn 75 points
2 Dunedains 48points
3 Rangers of Arnor 9points each if I use spears

In total 150 points

The reason I wonder this is because the GW store rules are when we play a campaign is that you start with one warband and can be 150 points and needs one hero to lead them.

Each Dunedain and RotN is an independent hero, which means they are their own warband. They can't lead one, or be in one. Still, maybe they'll let you break the rules a bit, there's nothing illegal about what you're doing*...though I think you'd be better off with a more standard setup.

*edit: that wasn't clear...what I meant was, if you field them all they will be separate warbands, but that's not illegal per the rules.

No, Dunedain and Rangers of the North are heroes. You can only have 1 hero in a warband, they are independent heroes so they have to go in a lone warband eg:

Warband 1:
Aragorn
8 Rangers of Arnor

Warband 2:
Ranger of the North

Warband 3:
Ranger of the North

etc..

I see, there a 100% bow army goes out the window. But I guess it is for the better the dunedain/rangers got pretty good stats, guess I'll have to find strength in numbers.

Thanks for the helpful responses =)

I'm pretty sure that aslong as your take 1 RoN for every 4 RoA in your TOTAL force, the 100% bow rule is still in effect (as oppose to in each Warband)

Hope that helps!

Why does a 100% bow army go out the window? They can still have 100% bows.

My mistake I thought just that the warband with the dunedain/ranger of the north that got the 100% bow limit. Not the entire force

Glad to hear it does work the way I thought, that means I can unleash a rain of arrows on my foes \o/

Apparently "nerfed" now with no volley and -1 when moving.

What was volley everyone? Sounds like Grey Company will miss it?

Volley was the ability to shoot twice your normal range if you had 10 models lined up touching with the same bow-type. But you only hit on a 6 no matter your shoot score, and your opponent could nominate a different target within range every other hit. This meant goblins got a relative benefit, because they already suck with bows.

Personally I didn't like it because it encouraged those "start in a corner and make the long march to the middle" games. Really boring until finally 6 turns later there was combat.
