Thanks again everyone, really appreciate all the praise! :-D

Here's the progress on Legolas :)

Image

Image

Very happy with it so far, I didn't use Dark Angels Green, as all the GW guides say, instead I used Knarloc Green, an old foundation colour, washed with badab black, highlighted with knarloc green and then a final highlight with Knarloc Green/Skull white :)

Quote:
how do you do them?

Well first off, I paint a few light coats of Tallarn Flesh (another old foundation paint). Then I do the eyes. I do them now so that if I screw up, I only have to touch up the basecoat of flesh :) For the eyes, I first paint a some black where I want the eyes to be. Then over this I paint a thin line of skull white, leaving the black showing around the edges. I then dot in the pupils with black (or a colour of your choice, such as blue) To try have them realistic looking, I never paint the pupils dead centre, I always try to have them looking to one direction, even just slightly. I can't remember where I picked that up from, but it works for me :) Then to finish off the face, I give it a wash of orgryn flesh, followed by a highlight of dwarf flesh everywhere but the recesses, then a highlight of dwarf flesh/elf flesh mix on the raised areas. And for Legolas, because he is an elf, I gave him a very small final highlight of pure elf flesh :)

Hope that helps :)

Your Legolas is looking really good. You have some skill with highlighting, not to mention painting eyes!

I'm happy with him, and he looks great with the others :) Boromir is next, but after undercoating him I've just noticed a mould line I didn't get rid of :x Anyway, updates on him to come :)

Wow - great job :yay: The eyes, face and highlighting is top notch - especially on a fairly average plastic mini. I think I'll have a go at following your strategy for painting eyes - really like how these turned out. 8)

Thanks everyone :-D I love painting Legolas models, I really like the greens, but this one wasn't sculpted great, a lot of things seemed to blend into one another, and the back was a nightmare, all around the quiver, I had no idea what was meant to be what  but as I said, I'm very happy with it, and your comments just make me prouder of it :) Thank you all  Let's hope I can do as good a job on Boromir :)

Here's progress on Boromir :)

I know the eyes don't look even there, but trust me, they are :) I'm happy with his face and hair, so now onto the rest :)

An outstanding Legolas! The hair seems off to me, but that's me talking. :-D
Boromir looks great so far! Looks like he fell into some snow up to his neck!

Hey all :)

I've been very busy lately, so very little progress on Boromir :( But here is a quick update of recent additions to my collection :)

Image

Ugluk and Vrasku, as they are just out of the blister :) Should be fun to paint, I'm looking forward to painting up some Uruk-hai scouts, adding some variation into the leather, while trying to stick to muted tones :)

Image

Ambush at Amon Hen :) I was delighted to get this set, I've wanted it for ages :-D The sculpts and poses of the models are great, I especially love the uruks carry the hobbits, and that's my favourite Legolas pose :) I can't wait to paint these, Legolas, Aragorn, Gimli and Boromir will most likely be individual display pieces, on nicely modelled plinths :) I'm not sure whether to do them in Helms Deep, or just some nice woodland? I have the Breaking of the Fellowship, so I'll be basing and displaying them in a woodland theme :) And Lurtz and the uruks will be included in a small 250pt display army, Lurtz's Hunters :)

And I got these Woodland Scenics products :)

Image

Image

Hopefully they'll help me create really nice bases :) I can't wait to see what the flowers are like :-D

And some other bits from GW

Image

The Warhammer Movement trays will be used for display bases (I got the idea from an article on here 8) ) Mordheim tufts and dead grass, for Pellenor Fields and Amon Hen :) And some new paints, the new named Codex Grey, Bleached Bone and Skull White (I was running out) and a brass colour for the painting scheme I'll be using for my Galadhrim :)

Hopefully I'll get an update on Boromir soon :)

Nice higlighting on boromir, you have made the difference between the first coat and the higlight very subtle which creates a nice finish :)
