Painting Challenge: Shagrat!

Hello everyone! Welcome to the thread for the August Painting Challenge!

Rules

1. A miniature is decided upon before each monthly painting challenge, this months' being Shagrat. It is not required that you paint this mini, however it is preferred. Here is a list of preferred miniatures in order of most preferred to least preferred:

  • Shagrat
  • Mordor Uruk-hai
In addition to these, most Orcish/Uruk-hai heroes will likely be acceptable. But if you are unsure as to whether something will be elligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it, as this months challenge could be open to many different alternative figures.

2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of August 31st, 2012. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 4 photos please, this allows you to show your miniature off from front, back and each side which is more than enough.

4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months.

Good luck to all!

I will get a proof photo soon. I'll have to re-undercoat the warg as it has a grey basecoat but it's no big deal if I start over. :-D

I will enter the Mordor Uruk-hai Captain that I have converted out of an Uruk-hai Scout, but it probably won't be finished in time because I will be painting about 180 models at one. I'll post a proof pic later.

Really? I actually like the original model better myself, but I had a few of them so I converted and used them as regular Mordor Uruks.

^If I had a double of the original I would modify him to have a sword and shield.

" most Orcish/Uruk-hai heroes will likely be acceptable." --- since i only have this hero left to paint i will have to do it with this (if the entry doesn't count - i gotta paint him up anyway)

Will leave to the store now to do some painting - if it's open at least... yesterday it was closed;

The standard has been set early, looking forward to see how they all turn out! Not sure if I'll join in this month if I do it'd be a late entry. Haven't had the chance to paint lately but when I do next I want to concentrate on my Isengard force as fun as the comps are... never say never though! :)

Well done Bilbo! Like the shield work as well. Haven't started on mine yet, busy with Braveheart Clansmen.
