Random thought, but what happens to all the old paint that's still in stock in the GW's?

They sell it...

Really? No, Duh......
I sorta assumed that, but they just sell it at the same price as their 'new super duper' stuff? Who's going to buy the old stuff when there's new stuff? (Other than people wanting to stock up on colours that don't have a close match in the new stuff I guess...)

I wasn't in the hobby the last time they changed paints, so I was just wondering if they kept selling the old paint along-side the new, at the same price...No need to be terse.... :)

If I was terse,
Quote:

this was why. My point is that it was a vague question so you got a vague answer (hence the "..."). But nevermind. :)

I think GW would continue to sell them till the stock ran out. If theres going to be (yet) another annual price, they will of course factor that into the price for the old paints. But if the new paints come in different sized pots, I don't think they'd carry any price changes for the new pots over to the old pots as well (they wouldn't be that cynical would they? e.g. Use new and bigger pots as an excuse to up the price by a few pence on their older and smaller pots? [assuming they increase the size, which they probably won't] ).

This is pure speculation, but I reckon we'll see either the same size pots for the same or higher price, or smaller pots for the same price. I also wouldn't put it past them to give us smaller pots and an increased price.

Eh, yeah. I guess inflection (Sarcasm) doesn't carry through the internet that well.. :)
The laugh/wink smilies were supposed to convey that sarcasm, but I guess they didn't. Anyways, is there anyone who remembers what happened last time when new paints came in? I wouldn't put it past GH to make the pots smaller and raise the price, though the pots are already tiny.... :(

No, I recognised it and if anything, it was the sarcasm that prompted my "terse" (your word not mine) reply. I didn't feel particularly 'terse' (whatever that means  ) nor was I particularly offended, I just responded in kind (mild sarcasm).

Anyway this is getting off topic. The current paint paints (white, round, soft plastic) are visibly smaller than the old style paint pots (black, hexagonal, hard plastic) but the stated quantity is the same (12ml / 0.4 fl oz).

In the hobby centres where I buy my materials they keep the old paints until they are sold.
If you order from the GW website you will receive the old paints first until they are out of stock.
2 weeks ago I received a hexagonal pot of chaos black.

We need to distinguish that there are 3 current types of paints.

Old. - the hard plastic hexagonal paint pots with black lids. These have disappeared almost entirely from my local GW.
Current - the soft plastic round paint pots with white lids (foundation), which were introduced first with the Foundation paints. Black lids (washes) and transparent lids (all other paints).
New - the current paints are being phased out, with the colours either replaced with new colours or merely renamed.

Just so everyones on the same page, I suggest we refer to the paints as above.

My local GW hasn't had the "Old" ones for over a year, only "Current" ones, of which the lid is horrible.

I believe someone has poted a picture of 2 or 3 of the "New" paints, and they have exactly the same containers as the "Current" ones.

Nope. :-D I am just interested to see what the official explanations are for all the new different types. (Layer, base, glaze, technical, etc.)

Well the packeging definetly looks better and I wonder what the CD is like. If they have the same quantitiy of paint then I'll be totally cool about this.

There will probably some new books for painting also, the current "how to paint miniatures" is outdated with the new colours and such.

Edit: There is a new book in the photo, including CD.

The LotR paint starter set is no longer available to order, in America at least.

I got to see one of the new paint pots today.

There is nothing no one can complain about. Everything that was wrong with the old pot has been corrected. No leakage, the lid stays open, seal it very secure without causing the lid to come off and its even sealed shut so you know its a brand new paint.

Also its made in the Uk. Using GW's new machine ;)
