Dragon Knights were better when they were undercosted. Now they are also Independent Heroes. Use them if you want ejkorv, what do you think?

I think the dragon knight as a unit is a very strong unit, the down side is the point cost vs the fact he cannot lead.

In a 500 point army you are relatively limited by the need to get a decent unit count and therefore incorporating heros which can consume fairly large portions of your budget.

Having DK and Amdur in a heroic combat looks great but it hurts my unit count to be used, if i were to use it i would need to come up with a revised army list not simply incorporate it into my current.

I read in that other easterling thread something which caught my attention

GothmogtheWerewolf wrote:
I would be tempted to give your second rank of archers spears, so they can fight in combat too.

That might be the solution to a lot of my problems. I devised a rough list

1 Amdur mtd 115
1 captain mtd/with shield 65
1 warpriest mtd 70

10 with bow and pike 90
8 with pike and shield 72
10 with sword and shield 80

3 2 1 might
1 1 3 will
1 1 1 fate

492 pts ? captain may be 5 more pts

The points may be off as I didn't have a rule book infront of me but the advantage of this army over the other is they are all easterlings so amdur's banner effect is better (side question: his banner range is 3inch or 6inch?).

Plus it gives me 10 archers to volley out units or just regular shooting while moving towards the enemy.

I tried to run the DK mtd so he and Amdur could smash a flank using heroic combats but couldnt get it right so I swapped to the warpriest who lets amdur take on some bigger units more realiably with S6 hits hopefully sniping captains and restoring some might

Yes, I didn't mention that as you hadn't got any archers yet at all.

Both the Captain and the War Priest should be more as they ride armourded horses not normal horses. Do not write stats, you could add the total m/w/f but not for each hero eg 6 might, 5 will.

Nice list, if you can go a little over. That looks quite strong.

If you can't go over just drop 2 bows or something.

I don't mean drop 2 archers, I literally mean drop two bows.

Do you like Dragon Knights?

Agreed Shades can be quite a problem to face on the battlefield, I'm of the belief that whoever wrote the profile for them got sick of losing to Elves and decided to make the great equalizer. To take one on with Easterlings I would either go with the tried and true method of 'if you don't want to fight it shoot it' or you could try throwing Khamul in there on a Fellbeast and try to compel it out from behind his lines or better yet just run it over.

Welcome, Ellethorn. :) 'Tis good to have you. And yes, they did decide to make them the great equalizers, at least, when one combines it with the Shadow Lord.

@ejkorv- I agree with Gothmog- kick the bows, or nix two little items to drop the points slightly. You don't necessarily need to drop any models, just some equipment to bring the points down a bit.

As I recall the Easterling Spears, thought they behave like pikes, are technically spears. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

They changed the words on the Easterlings.

In the A Shadow in the East, they could only have spears. That their special rule of Phalanx allowed them to fight as if they had pikes and allowed the additional defense of the shield.

Now in Fallen Realms, it is written that they can only buy pikes. Which per the ORB you can not use shields, bow, etc....though with the Easterlings special rule Phalanx they are allowed to use shields. So it negates the old spear toting bowmen.

Ypiu should do Black Numenoreans in front, then Harad with spear and bow, then Easterling with pike and shiled.

Agree with Gothmog- particularly if you are going to run into many enemies with a fight higher than the average haradrim, in which case, just upgrade your Black Numenoreans and have one of the deadliest phalanxes in the game.

2 points for a single increase in fight doesn't really seem worth it to me.

When you are going against KoDA, or against Elves (whom I have spent more time fighting than anything else in my life- at least, in player v. player games) that single fight value is the difference between a draw combat and a lost combat. And to me, that is worth every single one of those points. Plus, it means that your Black Numenoreans could actually walk over an army of regular Numenoreans, which normally, they most certainly cannot.

11 pt BN vs 10 pt High Elf with shield, it's about even, but you can have 11 HEs for every 10 BNs, the elves would win. Terror wouldn't really come into effect against the elves. If it was a 1 point cost or a 2 pt cost that also increased courage, it would definitely be worth.
