If it comes down to it, and this possible new Mordor Orc box gives you less miniatures for a higher price, Mordor gamers could always use the Wargames Factory Orc Warband boxed set, which gives you 24 miniatures for $20 (US). Now, they don't look nearly as great, in my opinion, as GW's Mordor Orcs, and they are of course, not "legal," but they can be broken up into groups of 8 for WotR players and, assuming the Mordor Orc box becomes more expensive, are likely around half the price. http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/myths-and-legends/orc-warband

Are those roughly the same size as the GW ones? I actually like those better than GW's models.

I'm sorry to say I don't actually own any. However, they are 28mm, seemingly "true scale," so all assumptions point to the probability that yes, these miniatures are roughly the same size as GW ones. And, they are clearly inspired by artwork by Angus McBride for Middle Earth Role Playing.

As someone who's scoured eBay for a long time trying to pick up the old metal orcs for the sake of extra poses, a new boxed set would be a welcome addition.

Yes!! Me too, the metal figures in my opinion look so much better than the plastic ones, i'm looking for the metal original goblins and uruk hia too!

I think those Wargames factory orcs are really good. They are more like LOTR orcs rather than fantasy greenskin orcs.

Absolutely, I'm always happy to pay more for better minis. The thing GW did that annoys me most is hike the price on the old boxes - paying £4 extra for the same decade-old monopose minis is ridiculous. If they do new orcs, though, I'd buy them.

I wonder what gw are planning and i wish they cared more about lotr. If new orcs are in a 20 not 24 they must be jesting if they charge more. I have checked different gw sites and it seems that all european countries have the same items missing, whilst u.s. and canada ones are same as are australasian ones, but all 3 areas differ and the only items that are missing all over are the commanders (rohan, minas tirith and uruk-hai)

Mordor Orcs with new poses would be great but I've never understood why they don't creater 24 different orcs or at least include some bitz that can make some of the minis a bit different.

I totally agree I've always felt that LotR never been prioritised in front of WhF and 40K. In the GW center here in Stockholm the game table for LotR is only aprox. 1x0.5 metres and the scenery and minis are from MoM so you miss the opportunity to play WotR or SBG. (sorry for OT)

Yeah that's true, it's a very big opportunity for gathering new gamers so I hope GW will take the chance. I hope also that my GW center will consider a bigger gaming table for LotR, that's the least they can do. :P

I hope they seize the opportunity as well, and to launch new magazines as they did before to help draw more people into this hobby :)

Rvert back to earlier posts, GW doesn't care about LOTR (or Hobbit probably) :(

nope, with the new hobby movie new doors will open for LOTR, new people will be interested in this hobby, new players, new mini's...new rules maybe  why are they having so much work getting the old mini's to finecast? they must be preparing for the hobbit

They want you to think that but GW do not care about LOTR, they care about getting more people but it is even easier to do that with WFB and 40k. We can only wait, hope and dream.

I dont care if they dont care, as long as they release new minis for the hobbit movie, and i believe that with the new hobbit movie, LOTR will move ahead of other hobby's
why? because when the hobbit out to the cinema will be something new, and people like new things, and former players will return to the hobby and also new players, Hobbit movie will be a breath of fresh air in this hobby

you must be jesting if you think it will ever move ahead of the others. At best, it will do almost as well as.

The Hobbit movies will be great for the Hobbit, but the fanbase for other systems mean that thjey will always be mopre popular, plus GW doesn't have to pay a licensing fee for them so they can make more profit.

They said on their FB page that they (the web guys) love LotR more than WHF or 40K, the only reason they don't showcase anything is that they don't get anything sent in. If people on here would send in their pictures, like ALL of the ones in the monthly poll, they would showcase it more, which can only increase interest in LotR.

Bud, I think you're being a little too dramatic--no offense
It is much easier to bring new customers into the "Games Workshop Hobby" through the license of major, recognizable franchises such as Lord of the Rings than it is with Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. LotR is one of the most beloved and recognizable epics of all time, and that's no exaggeration; on the other hand, I had never heard of Games Workshop, Warhammer, or Warhammer 40K before seeing an advertisement for the Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game in the back of my friends Return of the King video game manual. I got in through LotR; I would never, ever, ever have purchased 40K or WHFB miniatures without getting to them through LotR. Besides being an excellent marketing strategy and valuable resource, I think, on some level, its quite obvious that GW "cares" about The Lord of the Rings. They've had a lot of opportunities to just drop the range completely; they could have easily stopped after the first few supplements for SBG, and then waited to renew it when, say, a Hobbit film was released. Instead, they stuck with it, made a Warmaster adaptation, made a large amount of miniatures not seen in the films, and created a mass combat system. We could assume that this was all to scrape as much money out of the license as they could, but there came a point and time where it likely would have been more profitable to discontinue LotR. I think that Games Workshop actually likes their Lord of the Rings range too much to let it go. They "care" about it, but right now, it's not the biggest money-maker. It's profitable enough to maintain, but not so profitable at present that they should push it or support it as much as we would like.

I'm guessing individuals within GW probably favor LotR as well. Games, rules, and miniature ranges aside, Warhammer is decent fantasy, and 40K is pretty good science fiction, but c'mon, its Lord of the Rings for crying out loud! :)

Then why dont they just drop the line? GW is preparing for a huge release for the Hobbit. They renewed the lisence and even stated that it is one of their core systems. Of course they care about LOTR. It is a major (not #1) but still a major game in the wargaming industry.
