Hi all.
I'm not a fan of the GW dragon model, so I'm planning to convert my own to LOTR. My main question is on base size - is the LOTR dragon base size the same as a Mumak, or is it the smaller sized large oval base - same as used by a lot of the new 40k Flying models like the Valkyrie etc?
thanks!

aye, the mumak's base is bigger than the dragon's (: it's on the GW site, perhaps you'll find more info there it's called 'large oval base' I think

Thanks. I picked up a "Large Oval Base" but I wasn't sure if it was the right size for the GW dragon since I haven't seen the model in person.

If you're talking about the dragon from the lotr range, it's the right size. Or it should be. The large oval base is in the dragon box when you buy it, so yeah, he'll fit (:

Thanks, I wasn't sure which one it was. Now I just need the time and space to convert my dragon...

Bit of a thread rez, but I just did this exact same thing for the exact same reason. I went so far as to make my own base too. The nearest store is about a 40 minute drive (to get the free shipping) and I didn't feel like paying $7.00 for shipping on a $5 item. Anyway...please share some pics of your work!

Looking forward to see more Dragons! Can't wait to see you posting pics! :-)

It's been a while since I painted my first (and so far the only) dragon, but I remember it took me ages to decide what to do with him... Colour-wise and basewise... In the end, I went for 'fire'-colour-range and made the base so that he was like standing on a ramp... This way he was lifted a bit which made him a little more impressive. Since then, I actually kinda love him (and even more since he got into the CMON-annual, :D )
