Some of you may remember me.
While I have not been active on the message boards, (two teenager's who have first dibs on the computer), I have been continuing to make terrain.
Here is my latest work.

I had already made a version of the Golden Hall that I was never really happy with. It was made out of foamcore and balsa. After gaining some experience working on my Minas Tirith board, I decided to revisit Edoras and attempt a build using MDF.

holy... ... . ...... ... *face melts off with the super awesomeness of that model*

That's look brilliant mate, lots of detail in there. Some close ups would be handy and keep us updated. Are you considering doing Edoras? or just the Golden Hall.

I usually wait till I can hide the mistakes with paint before taking close ups  , but I'll see what I can do.

As you can sort of see from this picture there will be a couple of houses on this board. I don't think I will try the whole city of Edoras, (I learn't my lesson with Minas Tirith). I will probably do a board of the front gates, though God only knows when I'll get around to it. Lots going on. I just finished building a cabinet with slide out drawers to store my miniatures, and I intend to have mini-dioramas/themed boards for my models to fit in to. That's going to take me a long time.

This is really nice - great work :yay: Don't be shy about close-ups. It helps all of us who foolishly imagine that one day we might build something similar. Once I have knocked off Minas Tirith, Rivendell, Osgiliath, The Shire, Helms Deep.....etc..I'll be on to Edoras in a flash

Fantastic work, definitely looking forward to more progress on this one. Did you ever finish Minas Tirith? I remember the project from a few years back but don't recall seeing the finished product.

That is amazing. Obviously you don't have space for it so I could take it off your hands for you? :P

Keep up the great work 8)

:D  You're back! And with a whole new project. Wow. What you have done so far is stunning. I cannot wait to see how this will look once it is all finished and painted. Glad to see you're still hobbying and checking in once and a while. :)

Nice to see you're still involved in the hobby!

Isn't it a real pain to carve all those details into MDF? How do you do it? What tools? Please do tell us more! :)

Hi Paul, I remember you. I’m on & off, like you – but also building all the time (It’s an enslavement, it sure is…)

That’s already looking like a magnificent piece of art! I think I know what it takes to sculpt all the details on those pillars, floors, walls and horse-heads. Personally, I would have stuck to the Golden Hall and forget about the town (?). The project is already a huge undertaking without it (but on the other hand, it’s gonna give you some spectacular photographs in the end!).

So you have learnt your lesson? Lucky you - I’m learning mine these days (and I’m not talking about my back, which is also suffering from all the sawing)…

:yay: Adrian

Ok so here are some close ups that will answer some of your questions.

Emi78
The floor is not a perfect representation of the film version. I just came up with something that I though looked Celtic enough. The circles will be painted a different color than the rest of the floor.

Oldman Willow
This is as close up as you are going to get till it's finished
396
395

valpas
All the carving is done with my handy dandy ... hobby knife

Just a small sampling of some other projects. I've lost most of my pics
A small section of Minas Tirith
398
Sam and Rosies

This, along with my mini-dioramas (some pis in my gallery), is what I am doing to store my miniatures. The cabinet has 6 drawers and each drawer is 2feet by 2feet. Should hold most of my models.

Thanks for the photos. I like what you are doing with the cabinet and storage trays. The Hobbit hole is one of my favorites.
It would be cool to see more of Minas Tirith. I have a pre-movie version. Storage is a problem. It is taking up my home office until I finish remodeling. I am curious to find out how you display or store your version.
Good work. I can not wait to see more!

Some updated pictures.
I decided to build two Rohan houses to add some more interest to the landscape

452
The bases is ready to be painted. That means all the carving is done :D

I am making the sides removable, (as well as the roof), so that the interior will be completely playable. I'm thinking of using small earth magnets. Should work OK
