just to clarify i'm not wanting to remove the mail, i'm wanting to replace it with a better looking one. For me the galadhrim mail looks more like scale armour rather than mail... i want it to look more like chainmail :S

I agree it looks strange. Maybe the shield arm could be rotated downwards towards the front of the body - this might look more realistic? I have never done any conversions so this might not be feasible.

I also like the original dragon mail - and naively I reckon the conversion you propose will be a major pain.

Although, the shield might shield the warrior from indirect arrow volleys it would be difficult to use his sword that way.Why not attach the shield at the waist or on his back. Many had shoulder straps.

OK a question...

Well it would certainly give a more uniform look to your army, Dave, but it must be done right. GS with a load of random holes poked in it doesn't look much like chainmail. There is a methodical way of sculpting it.

Try one as a test piece. If it takes too muck effort, it could still be used as a hero/officer.

Here's the thing:

Apparently that "skirt" on the Lorien armoured elves?

It isn't mail. It's some sort of gilded mesh, and probably serves no defensive function at all. In other words, the elves you lot call Galadhrim? They were wearing their parade uniforms. So best treat the plastic Galadhrim as wearing, say, a quilted version of the same idea.

I like the idea of using upholstery nails. That's quite interesting

OK so i've been away for a bit (visitn in-laws and the rest) but here is a preview of my colour scheme and how i'm going to base my army of galadhrim!! Again any tips are more than welcome and larger (clickable) images can be seen on my blog post at Pippins Window. Enjoy and thanks for reading!! :D :D

(the lighting is a bit rubbish and so the colours appear a little darker than they really are)

very good, I like the darkness of the armour, creates a kind of sombre look

Just a quick question before i continue with the rest of my elven box set do you reckon the bases are too dark? :?

hould i using a lighter flock and paint scheme fo the base? i've read that the base should be in contrast for the unit, i.e. for dark models use light terrain and flock for the base. For lighter/bright models darker flock and terrain.

I'd try lightening the base coulur a little, yeah.

By the way, I'm trying to cast up shields the way you did and it's a bloody struggle; do you have any further tips? I notice you used brown stuff - is using green stuff my problem here?

I used brown stuff cause its harder substance and also it keeps detail better than green stuff...

If you tell me what kind of issues you're having i'll be able to help. The only problem i can see with green stuff is it is more elastic, meaning the finish on the detail will look more organic and will not be as sharp as using brown stuff, but without knowing your probelm i can't really help.
