Well, Isengard tends to own Rohan, so by all means, don't go that way or your friends will never play again :)

Moria is fun, depends what flavour you want:
- goblin king (Durburz), a horde, and trolls; (this is probably the most common way to start)
- beast king (Druzhag), a mini-horde, spiders, wargs and bats;
- a horde allied with warg riders and sharku
- a horde allied with the spider queen

For evil men you can't go wrong with Harad + Corsairs.

If you browse through the threads in this forum you should get some good ideas.

In 500 points you can get 1 or 2 trolls. Just make sure to have them behind your lines untill you reach the enemy and they will probably arrive with all 3 wounds intact. Here is a fun list:

1 Durburz 60
1 Shaman 45
1 Captain with shield 40
2 Cave trolls 160
39 Goblins with some sort of weapon 195

44 guys/ 6 might/ 500 points.

This list is not the most competetive list, but it is a lot of fun to play with.

Either takes lots of bows and plan to do lots of shooting, or take only a few and focus on getting into combat instead.

Yes, you should deffinitly take some archers there are several reasons:

1. The archers can still fight normally once the lines have clashed. At this points level you will only have to kill one or two enemies in order for the bows to pay their points. Let's say you have ten archers and they shoot (and kill) a total of 14 points for the entire game, the bows have payed their cost mathematicly.
2. There isn't always room for everyone to fight at the same time, so you can just as well have a few shooting instead of doing nothing.
3. If you have some archers you can frighten your enemy from doing certain things, such as leaving a banner bearer alone or let a hero ride behind you without additional cover.
4. Archers are great arrow magnets.
5. Volley fire. Let's say you have 12 archers, that should give about 2 hits a turn with volley fire. Since your opponent get to direct half your hits, he will probably choose a normal warrior, over 3 turns this roughly gives you a 50% chance of killing. Lets say that the same goes for the other half, of course you don't have a 100% chance of killing something, but you are likely to get one kill. This doesn't seem like much, but it probably pays for half your bows. More importantly, volley fire actually gives you an advantage against other strength 2 bows since the accuracy is ignored and you probably have more archers than they do.

So basicly, don't consider your bow armed goblins as archers, but rather as goblins who can shoot.

when you get to a high enough points cost i highly recommend the balrog, he's loads of fun and used properly he can be devastating (any heroes that make mincemeat of your goblins will die... with surprising ease)
