I think you could improve Murin by painting the icon on his shield with a lighter colour (perhaps a similar colour to the one you used for the border on his tunic?). Other than that both Murin and Drar look excellent. Great work! :yay:

Thank you for your suggestion King Elessar. I don't think I'll make it that light but I'll give it a go.
At the moment I'm working on a couple dwarves I converted a while back. I wasn't happy with the conversions so I'm converting them again. The warrior with the shield is almost done. I'm not happy with how the armour turned out but I'm going to leave it as it is. I plan on doing a little more work on his sleeve and hopefully painting him tomorrow.

These two are proving to be a lot harder. I'm just going to sculpt new beards and reattach their arrow. I'm having a lot of trouble with their beards. I've had a look at the articles in the library but any advice on sculpting them will be very helpful. I'm also having trouble with the arrows. I have the bits with the fletching but I don't know how to put them back on. I know that with my abilities I will not be able to attach them in the same way they were before so suggestions on how and where to attach them if at all would also be very very helpful.

If you're wondering what happened to the guy on the left I ran out of the thinner I have been using to strip my minis and I didn't have the money to buy what was available at the miniature store so I tried a cheaper one from a hardware store. It was too strong so most of the detail on him is gone.

Good conversions!

As for the tips you need for converting,
Create the fletches first as little individual feathers. You'll probs want 2 or 3. make them that traingular shape of course. When they are dry, just glue them into place.

keep it up mate :yay:

I can also see a lovely seam of plastic along the edge of the first Dwarfs axe handle.

I'm not that great at using green stuff so I can't really give you much feedback on the sculpting, but I really like the pose of the first dwarf. Nice and simple. 8)

They really are looking great, any chance of a group shot of the ones you've finished up so far?

I can't give you any green-stuff advice either, I'm told it's more a matter of practice and patience than anything else though, so keep at it!

Thank you for all your tips and encouragements. Here are pictures of the two I've finished painting, though the bases still need to be done. The only other ones I've worked on are the two archers in the first post.
I'm trying out a couple of different colour schemes so please let me know what you think.

Thank you very much for your advice samoht, it will come in handy.
What I meant was I have the part in the green box but I can't sculpt the part where it it connects to the warrior, in the red. I think that at this point I will just leave it off and save it for some future use but if anyone has any ideas on how to attach it to the archer I'll be happy to hear it.

I am not very good with green stuff ether. I have done a good bit of kit bashing. The warrior needs to carry his bag of arrows so that he can get to them.

From the photo and your description I think you cut the arrows away from the quiver when you removed them from the model.
If you need to, sculpt the quiver around the bundle of arrows. It could be a box or a bag or a tube. When it is almost ready to set, press it to the point you wish to attach it to the model. Press hard enough to make a slight indention and set it aside to dry. I would paint it first and pin it on. You could make straps by rolling out some green stuff on wax paper. Then cut them out with a razor blade. When the straps have almost set bend them around the model.

The model maker had to construct the model so that it could be cast or injected into a mold. We don't need to worry about under cuts so you have more freedom to do what you want.
I hope this helps. I also like the way the models have turned out so far.

A VERY simple way would be to glue the arrows pointing into the ground in front of him. It's something that archers used to do to save faffing with trying to draw each one from a quiver. The quiver was for carrying and transporting them, then they'd take them out and stick them in the ground to pull up easily for reloading.

wow I've missed a lot of updates.

Your new ranger scheme is very original and wel executed. :yay:

but you might want to paint the raven on murin's shield.

And the conversion are well done.
the only advice i can give is that you might want to give a bit more attention to the shoulde while sculpting/converting.

keep up the good work 8)

Thank you Oldman Willow and Hashut's Blessing for your advice. Oddly none of the dwarf archers have quivers, their arrows are just tucked into their belts, so I never though of that. The idea of putting the arrows on the base is great and a very easy fix but because the bits I have are so short I don't think that will work but I'll have a look.

I had painted the raven black but it clearly needs more work. I was thinking about painting it black but adding some highlights to it but since it sticks out from his shield so much I'm considering painting it like the metal. Any ideas?
Thank you for all the feedback.

Umm..grey highlights?

What I did with my Murin figure was, I made a sort of background for the raven (call it cheesy if you must), it was just a plain blue sky and the bird perched on a brown branch. If I had a photo I'd post it here...but I don't.
:(

I dunno, I don't really feel that I should be giving advice, as I'm no great shakes at painting models myself.

We all need good ideas or a fresh way of looking at things. Keep them coming.

I've finished the two archers. I decided sculpt a quiver for one of them but on the other I simply glued the arrows to the base. They aren't great but here they are.

I also got around to repainting the raven on Murin's shield.

I think you should go over the raven with badab black a couple times, so as to make it look black, but still metal...Does that make sense?

As for the archers...
Awesome!!!!!!! :D 8) :yay: :)
EDIT: In response to Oldman Willow's suggestion...

That turned out well.So well, you should add bed rolls or back packs to future projects. You know no self respecting Dwarf warrior is going to be to faraway from his gold pan and geologist pick.

Looks good. 8)
I wouldn't change the raven any further, it looks fine to me.
But you should really add backpacks in the future to you dwarves.
you have really improved your sculpting skills.

Thank you for your comments and advice. The bags and bed rolls will fit very well on quite a few of the warriors so I will definitely give that a go.
Based upon some of the pictures in the Khazad-Dum sourcebook and some other pictures I've seen I've decided to paint some of the warriors with leather armour, similar to the archer on the left. He isn't the best sample due to the effects of the thinner but you can get an idea of what I'm trying to do. I felt that he turned out pretty well but the colour scheme still needs some work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

After a short vacation I'm back to work once again, starting with my goblin drummers.

I've finished the two drummers and the drum. I decided not to paint pupils in the eyes as I was unable to get the two eyes on either of them to match up. Feel free to leave comments and criticisms.
