Thanks again guys.

I've been frantically painting to finish my Las Vegas Grand Tournament Army. I just put the last touches on the Mahûd warriors - the facial tattoos. Here's a shot I took of two warriors and their King.

Image

All that is left for me to finish the army is to flock the warriors and paint the rims. The display base is basically finished too - just a bit of flocking detail left.

Looks perfect, can't find anything on them to put my finger on.
Love the skin, care to share the recipe? :)

Great work dude.

Who was the inspiration for the Chief's warpaint?

It reminds me very much of someone in a film, but I can't put my finger on it at the moment.

:D

These look great Brent, can you reveal your army list or is that kept under wraps until after the tourney

Thanks for all the feedback my friends.

Obviously I went with a dark skin look inspired by a former GW employee Ty F (I'll butcher his last name so I won't try to spell it). To get the skin this tone, I went outside the Citadel paint range and used the Master Pro Series paints from Reaper. I used a combination of four colors: Dark Skin, Dark Highlight and Tanned Shadow. I mixed in a bit of black for the darkest shadows. Maybe I should paint one up step by step and do an article. It would be my first.

I didn't go off anything specific just sort of made them all up as I went along.

I've published the list publicly before (or at least variations of itl). However, I don't have the whole list handy now. I can tell you its a nasty mix of Mordor and Far Harad. I've got a sizeable Mahûd force backed up by cheap orc spears and orc trackers. I've got some Morannon Orcs to provide some extra defense up front. Add in a Captain, a Task Master and a Banner and I've got an excellent combat machine as long as I can avoid too much bow fire! I'm really looking forward to playing this army in the Las Vegas GT next weekend! I'll get pictures of the whole army and hopefully some of my battles and report back after the tourney.

Changing Gears Now... I'm going to be focusing on making terrain over the next few months. I'm one of the people in charge of cooridinating the terrain efforts for the LOTR Adepticon Tournament.

First thing I wanted to start working on is those lovely Hobb, er, Halfling Holes that I received from Natarn via SpectreHobbies.

Here's the first WIP shots with some basecoat paint:

And with some simple shading provided by the new GW Washes:

There's a few places that I've missed not putting the washes on (its quite obvious in the bigger photos). I'm also trying to figure out what to do about the windows.

I'm really impressed by the sculpting on these. I'm looking forward to finishing up the actual hill portions of the holes now.

Goodie! :D

I love seeing Terrain-in-progress threads but more so when it involves Shirefolk. All the recent activity in the Bag End contest is fascinating to watch and it looks like another one has succumbed to the little people. Another blabbering, it's great to see someone else's approach to these casts, they are looking great. Only one small thing, the stonework could use another wash or highlight :)

Ditto! I've been sitting here for three weeks trying to conjure up a plan. If you think of anything let us know

I'm thinking about leaving them black but putting Hardcoat on them to give them a glassy look.

I was thinking of painting some sort of diffuse light coming out of them but I'm not sure how to pull it off.

Just a suggestion - do no paint them completely black - it can be overwhelming. Try a very dark grey, with a smaller area of black towards the center of each pane. Or you could suggest the presence of curtains, just a hint of a lighter colour on either side. Then put on a couple of coats of something glossy.

And I adore the orc conversions - it adds to their motley appearance while maintaing a thematic coherence. (Sorry about the big words - the Bane will be checking another 3 dictionaries...)

:D Hey, it's great to see you working on these! They are coming on well.

I am wondering the same thing about my windows. I painted them light blue with highlights of white to suggest a reflection of the sky and the glint of sunlight on them. It's okay but I think hardcoat or something similar - some varnish pooled in the recesses might improve the look.

Image

With the stones, you may be happy with a grey theme, but don't be shy of adding some more colours to the palette. Here's what I did with mine using washes over a light grey base.
