Professional laser cutting and now Woodland Scenics armatures. Here's the link to Thomarillion's website. Why don't you just buy one of their hobbit holes and save yourself some time.

I've ran out of Polyfilla which I need to cover the base before spraying, so Ive had to use watered down PVA instead. Just waiting for this to dry and then I will move onto the painting stage. Once this is done, I'll start on the foliage.

I am using a combination of SeaFoam and Fine Leaf Foliage to cover the tree, heres a close-up of how it looks so far...
Image

The flash makes it look a lot lighter than it actually is, its really a mix of deep and light green.
Once its totally covered, I am hoping the effect will be quite dramatic.

You've overtaken Alan!

Great progress pics mate, I really hope every stage is as thorough as this. And the sea foam leaves look very convincing, have you got a link to a supplier please? :)

That's a tree? Looks like someone sneezed on a hedgehog.

Here's my latest efforts (no lasers)

Adding small pieces of Sea Foam at a time, I am about 1/3 of the way done now...very time consuming !
Image
Its getting really tricky to get them attached now, so I'm taking a well deserved break :)

I see this mentioned a lot. But what exactly is "Purity Seal" Whatever it is, I don't think it goes by the same name in the US.

Purity Seal is what Games Workshop sell in spray form to add protection to your painted miniatures.
Basically, I am using it as a kind of 'Spray Glue'. Spraying each piece of Sea Foam, then dipping it into Fine Leaf Foliage. Using Purity Seal also adds strength to the Sea Foam, which is a very delicate product.

Alan, hope you haven't cut the windows yet on the 'Parlour' piece...your windows are wrong ! The right hand side one (looking at it), should be an 'Arched' window, not a circular one !

Image

All the pieces are looking great, nice cuts ! Ive tried again, had success with the larger circles, but damned if I can get the smaller ones right.

Hmmm. I don't think I've ever seen Purity Seal in the US. I'll have to look for it.

Thanks matey, it's a great reference shot of the tourist reconstruction. But I wouldn't put too much faith in the details from that photo Brian. The layout of the whole thing is spot on of course, but the actual shapes and sizes of the windows are incorrect on a couple of facades - that one included. I did make a mistake though on the parlour facade and thanks for showing me the full picture the other day - it's more of an octagonal section than flat like I have it.

The other things I spotted that they'd done a little wrong were as follows:
  • The shape of the roof over the front door isn't a nice smooth flowing curve, it's more like the one they have in the parlour section you showed above.
  • The window on the extreme right is also too large.
The curvature of the panels to the left of the parlour are too large.

When I get home tonight, I'll post the full picture you gave me and a couple of reference shots I have used from the movie.

Oh, and honestly, the tree looks fantastic.
